*Mme. Giry stood in the shadows, toying with the gold band on her left hand, watching as the corps de ballet practiced, her eyes lingering fondly on the golden head of her daughter Meg.* She is growing up so fast...

((I am BURNING that ring. Swear to God.))
Percy stood deep in the shadows, watching Vianne study her child.
Can I be honorable enough to let her go until she is ready to come to me? Am I willing to let her out of my sight, knowing that she may never return?
His heart offered no answer.

((And how am I supposed to react to that? Give me something to work with, here.)) *Vianne turned away and walked further into the shadows.* "If only I could have given her a better childhood...I pray to God she cannot remember..." *she murmured to herself.*

((*grins* Sorry...I wasn't sure if you wanted him here or not.))
Percy sensed her coming; if he had been deaf, and blind, and mute, he could have still known she was there.
Silently, he reached out and took her hands.
"Vianne," he whispered, and his voice rang like a midnight bell.

"Percy," *she said in a surprised tone with a small laugh, squeezing his hands lightly.* "I should know better than to think darkness is solitude."

((*squees*))
Percy bowed.
"Indeed, ma'am, Darkness and I are old aquaintances. We have struck a bargain. She allows me to move freely within her embrace, while I live within her solitude."
Bending, he kissed her hands.
"Tell me, pray, why are you here? Has the Opera at last decided upon a new production?"

*Vianne shrugged.* "As always, the managers delay their decision until they are certain of how much money is to be made--nonetheless I must keep my corps de ballet in good practice while we wait for further direction."

((Oh, big help. How to bring up the issue?))
Percy smiled.
"They would gossip themselves to death without your diligence," he said.
Then his eyes turned serious.
"Have you decided what to do about Joseph?"

*Vianne's expression sobered, and she spoke without hesitation, for having made up her mind she would hold with no second-guessing herself.*
"I have visited my solicitor and had the proper papers drawn up. I had hoped to visit him this evening, whilst he is most lucid, to have him sign the divorce papers. I was just going to leave when you came by."
*She glanced with almost girlish timidness into his face with a searching look.*
"If you wish to accompany me...?" *she turned and led the way from the wings, turning to look over her shoulder to where Percy stood.*
"And his name is Gerard, retard."

((WHY DO I KEEP THINKING JOSEPH?))
Percy silently followed her.

**NEW DAY**
*Edward poked around despondently. It wasn't like him to brood. Sometimes, though, when it seemed like his life and/or career weren't going well, it was hard to remain optimistic.*

*Slightly frantic, but still keeping up a respectable front, Christine had managed to enter the Opera without being stopped by one of the various phantoms. She knew it was a bad idea to come back, but she had nowhere else to go.
However, she finally saw a man who inspired her with a greater sense of comfort.*
"Edward!"

*Ed looked up, and a smile broke out across his face. But it faltered when he registered her discomfort. He took her arm.*
"Miss Daae, what's happened? Shouldn't you be...?"

"Yes, I should. That's just it."
*She looked around*
"Edward. Something's happened to my husband. Either he has gone mad, or someone who looks exactly like him has taken his place. Either way, I need somewhere to hide."

*Edward's face became serious.*
"Christine, I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry."
*Her words did not surprise him, per say; he'd watched too many movies. But he was sorry this had happened to her.*
"Are you certain... Are you sure he wasn't just hiding it from you all along?"
