"What will you do if the papers find out about this?" Krolock asked, glaring up from the floor. "I won everything you have, boy, and I can take it away-"

"Who will they believe? You or me? I fought the parasite! I helped them get the rest out of there! All you did was fall on your knees! You think me your puppet even as you affirm your natural state. I said, kneel-"

"There is no one else like me![/i"] Loki shouted as the room around them began to melt away. "I am Loki. I am ice, I am fire. I am every truth you don't want to hear! I am the end of all things!"

"No," Loki said, shaking his head so that his tousled hair tossed in the wind. "I'm simply above your pitiful perception. Kneel to me, old man-"

"Nothing!" Loki shouted. "You in your impervious arrogance- you have nothing I can use to bend you.

Johannes stopped struggling to stare up at him.
"...what of Herbert-"

It was all Loki could do to not drop the godly facade then and there. How far was Krolock willing to go?
He had to dial it back, start small and work up. Loki let the wind die down, and he stood looking down on Krolock in the still air.
"...such fine, fair hair he has," Loki improvised. "I would not turn down a chance to collect the lot of it."

"What in Heaven's name is wrong with you?" Loki blurted, staring down at him from above with a disgusted impression.

"I am acquiescing- and besides, it's merely hair. He'd have it back within days. Though, of course, if we must needs buy our security from you with some more permanent solution, that is not impossible either-"

"It was a test- Odin's beard, is there nothing you truly value?"
The purplish limbo gradually faded back to the study. Loki was both furious and flabbergasted.
"'Here, placate this mad god with your body, Herbert, give him whatever he wants of you-'"

"Is that your price?" Krolock asked mildly. "The boy was quite interested in the prospect himself, once. I'm sure he can be brought back around again."
