"Oh, I don't think," said Loki.
He picked up the fireplace poker himself, bent it, and threw it into the fire.
"I know."

Johannes stared.
"These, er, parlor tricks are all quite thorough, but-"

Loki lifted his eyebrows.
"Parlor tricks? You still think these are parlor tricks?"

"It's all a very impressive bit of showmanship, I'll concede. Why, for a moment there, I nearly believed you were burning alive!"
He chuckled warmly.

Loki watched the vampire cross the room, pulling his robe tighter around himself.
Krolock was completely undeterred. He didn't believe him, and even if perhaps he did, he didn't care. He would continue on his smug, self-determined way, leaving a trail of human debris behind him without as much as a backward glance.
Loki would have to make him care.
"...you're right," he said, looking away. "I suppose I hoped that perhaps... pretending to be something more than I am would be enough."

Krolock looked up from his desk with an almost sympathetic look on his face. Almost, almost. There was just a little too much gloating in there to spoil the whole impression.
"Did you even do any research before you came here, Lukas?" he asked gently. "You may have fooled my son, but Herbert is easily mislead. Of all the gods to pattern yourself on... tut-tut. They'll hate you, you know."

"I know you'll be useful to me, of course, but what can I say? I'm more forgiving than most."

"When I came here, I thought I could pretend to be something I'm not, and never could be," Loki said softly. "I should have known it would fail me at a moment like this."

"It's never easy to accept one's limitations," Krolock said sagely.
He came up behind Loki now, to put a conciliatory arm around him.
"I think you ought to leave now, boy, and I'll forgive all this idiotic posturing. How does that sound, hmmm?

Loki pulled away from him, carefully masking his expression.
"There's no point in hiding it anymore, is there?"

Loki looked back over his shoulder at him.
"Then why should I deny it?"
The door slammed shut of its own accord, and the fire blew out.

Krolock took a step back, looking almost disappointed.
"Nothing beyond my power, boy-"

"God, you're so stupid," Loki groaned, right before striking him to the ground.
"Don't get up. Don't get up, you vermin-"
Krolock tried to push up, but Loki stamped firmly on his back.
"Kneel."
