Krolock looked over Loki's shoulder.
"Herbert," he called. "Herbert, come down here. I need you to assist me with something-"

Loki shoved Krolock back with one hand shoved over the vampire's mouth.

"This is between you and me, old man," Loki snarled. "Call that son of yours down here and you'll be cleaning bits of bloody blond hair off the walls for a week."

"You wouldn't-"

"Oh, I would do that and more," said Loki, with an abrupt feral kind of grin. "It's all up to you, old man-"

Krolock stared him in the face for a long moment, and then let his head rest against the wall in a gesture of momentary surrender.
"You're lucky you're not mortal."

"I'd say the same to you, but it doesn't really matter much to me," said Loki.

"If the girl returns, she returns, no?"

Loki's grin split open. He shook his head, and his hair bounced a bit.
"Oh, no. I wouldn't say that. I saw to that little matter myself."

"Do you mean to tell me you killed her?"

The mild disapproval in Krolock's voice- just the barest trace of concern, as though he were asking if Loki had eaten the last slice of cake rather than suggesting he killed the woman they both claimed to love- threw Loki for enough of a loop that the smile briefly dropped. He could taste bile.
All of that romantic posturing, all of that tragic obsession that had reduced Teja to frightened tears, and he barely seemed to care about the idea that a jealous lover might have killed her for what Krolock did to her.
The smile returned, the viciousness unfeigned now.
"No," said Loki, in a hoarse voice. "No. But I reminded her of what she would be losing. She cried a bit, of course, but in due time..."
He took a deep, shuddering breath and bared his teeth.
"She begged me. And why wouldn't she?"
Time to set the bait. Loki released him and walked casually toward the full-length fireplace, standing with his back to it and his arms spread challengingly. He lifted his chin slightly, shifted his shoulders to make sure he still had the amulet under his clothes.
He silently cast a few additional protective wards over himself- it looked like a nervous finger-twitch, a bit- and straightened up to display himself.
"Look at me, and look at you. Think of the power you possess, and then think of mine. What woman wouldn't choose fire and ice and life over an eternal tomb, with no comfort save that of a leech like yourself-"
It worked. Krolock let out a furious sound and shoved Loki straight back into the fire.
Loki screamed, and writhed a little, and then finally began to laugh.

Johannes stared with an unfamiliar sense of dread building in his stomach. He reached for the fireplace poker.

Loki sighed and strode out of the fire, lightly patting it out on his clothes. His sleeves were a bit ashen, but as far as his own body went, not so much as a curl of hair was even singed.
"You know, Johannes, I'm rather disappointed. I had you pegged as a much brighter sort of chap, but here you are, thinking you can get rid of a god with nothing but a little fire?"

"You still think you're a god ?" Johannes sneered.
