"I don't think I'm really the fighting kind," Rogue said. In truth, she hadn't been tested. She'd hurt someone, and run away, and now she had no idea what she was doing. And now there was Jack, and feelings she shouldn't be having, and... "I just want to... stay out of everyone's way."

"No?" Raven raised an eyebrow, surrpised. "Well, I suppose we can't all be. Still, I find that at least a regimen of strict training helps me concentrate and keep in fighting shape that way." She shrugged. Whatever worked for Rogue, worked.

This was sort of interesting, though. Rogue had not thought to apply her... affliction... to any practical purpose. Even now, it didn't occur to her. But protecting oneself seemed... useful. Not that she really needed it, did she? Not if anyone touched her.
Though there were plenty of ways to hurt a small young woman without coming into contact with her skin.
Raven was so different from her. She had direction. She had... people. Rogue envied that. Her arms crossed, she leaned against the wall.
"You sound really organized," she observed.

It was probably a good thing, since people finding out they had powers and running amok made up a good deal of the threats the Titans dealt with. It was good if they could keep it under control, or at least not use it.
It was ironic, actually, their situation--Raven, who claimed so much that she wanted to be left alone, with a caring support network and a place to rely on; Rogue, who apparently needed others around her, mostly alone. Fate was cruel.
A small smile touched Raven's face. "I keep things under control, at least."

Rogue nodded. "I get that," she said. She did, too. Well, just by covering up. But it was obvious from her attire that there was an ambiguity to her feelings; she was covered, true, but revealed at the same time. The sheer overshirt wasn't especially racy but someone who merely wished to hide from the world would have managed to look a bit more anonymous. "But you've always been.. this way? You've always known." Raven had had time. She'd probably been raised with what she could do. "Maybe it gets easier," she said, almost to herself.

Raven, though not the keenest observer of fashion or of psychology, could discern Rogue's mixed feelings just by looking at the clothes. It was enough to blend into the crowd in most places, but still...it did stand out a little.
"I haven't had any other choice but to know, really," she replied with a slight nod. Really, she would have preferred not to have been raised knowing it, but she had, and she'd coped. "I don't know your story, but hopefully you can come to terms with it in a way slightly less dramatic than I." That was all she'd say about that particular incident for now.

Rogue's eyes dropped to the floor, though a grim, self-deprecating smile tugged at her lips.
"I've already put one boy in the hospital," she said. "I'm not doing that again."

"It gets easier as you go along," said Raven, in a fairly rare moment of levity; only her eyes really indicated that she was joking.
"Honestly, though, just because you have bad powers doesn't make you a bad person."

Rogue wasn't up to joking, but she managed to detect the jest in Raven's voice. She shrugged.
"I guess," she said. "I mean, I believe that, sure. But it don't make much difference. If I can't... if I can't be among people... if I'm not safe... I don't know..."
She stopped, wondering if she'd revealed too much, sounded too weak. She was tired of being weak. But she didn't know what else she was.

This was getting interesting. At least Raven would have something to do with her time other than meditate (that didn't involve her being annoyed). She was curious.
"Can't be among people? Not to sound forward, but...why's that? What, exactly, can you do?"

Rogue hadn't told anyone what she could do. Not after... not after that. She looked up at Raven, and remembered the things she'd seen the girl do, and suddenly it felt good to be asked.
"When I touch people, it's like I take their energy, their memories... And it hurts them," she said simply. "I haven't done it since that first time. I just know I'm dangerous."
She held up her gloved hands, as an exhibit.

((So sorry about that! I'm back!))
Despite herself, Raven was beginning to like Rogue, or at least not be as irritated in her company as in most other people's. Perhaps (she thought idly) it was because she almost reminded her of herself, as she might have been under other circumstances.
She raised her eyebrows at the explanation. That wasn't one you heard often, when it came to powers. "I see. I guess that would make relationships rather awkward...I'm, uh, sorry."

((Don't worry about it! )) Rogue shrugged, as if she didn't care, but she wrapped her arms around herself again in a clear, if unconscious, signal. It was true it made relationships difficult--it made everything difficult. She was afraid to touch anyone; to brush up against anyone in a crowd, or touch while money changed hands, might mean harm to that person. But it wasn't just that. It was looking forward that scared her the most. She'd only just begun exploring what it was to touch another, to love them. And suddenly, it was snatched away. More than current isolation and loneliness, it was that Rogue could see nothing else, ever, the long years ahead. What was life without that? "Ain't your fault," she said. "But thanks."

While she was never good at reading people, Raven could feel something of what Rogue must be going through, judging by the protective gesture at herself. She preferred to stay alone by choice, largely, but this...this must be something else entirely. For someone not as introverted as Raven, it must be hellish. An eternity of being alone.
"I don't imagine there's anything I can do," she said after a moment, "but..." (and it almost pained her to say it) "...if there's anything you want to talk about, I guess...I'll be here."

Rogue looked up sharply, unable to hide her surprised and... gratitude. She covered quickly, but only with a slight smile.
"Thanks," she said. "I know this isn't your problem, but I appreciate it. It's not often you meet someone likely to even understand, y'know?"
She did appreciate that. Even if there was nothing she could do... it had felt good to tell someone. To tell someone who didn't immediately turn around and call her a freak.
