"You cheeky bastard!"
"Pleasure's all mine," Sydney said before taking the seat to his right. She took care not to ruin the intricate bustle of her dress.
The sound of polite society conversation hummed and buzzed throughout the halls as the intermission continued. They were quite alone in the performance hall and in their box.
"So tell me, Mr. North," she said, opening the fan that hung about her wrist. "What is your opinion of gospodin Tchaikovsky's music? I hear he's quite controversial among the critics in Russia."

He shifted his weight and leaned in slightly towards her.
"I often find that I particularly...enjoy controversial."

Sydney chuckled quietly behind her fan.
"A modern man, I see," she said with a smile. "You are a rarity, indeed, Mr. North."

"A rarity indeed," he repeated with a small smile to himself, as he resumed his seat. "Now, Miss Howard, I believe it's your turn. What is your opinion on Tchaikovksy and his controversial music?"

"Some say it's vulgar and some say it's revolutionary, but..."
She paused for a moment and glanced at the stage.
"I simply think him perfectly mad," she said light-heartedly as she turned her attention back to the gentleman.

"And do you like mad?"

She dropped her gaze as her countenance darkened.
"Tchaikovsky makes it seem more beautiful than it really is," she said, trying to muster up all the mirth she could in her voice. "I enjoy the fantasy in that... but in reality, it's quite ugly."

"But you enjoy the fantasy. And that's what makes it all worth our while."
A smirk curled his lips, as he readied himself for the lunge.
"As for the reality bit...I think I might be able to convince you otherwise."
He sprang at her then, one hand expertly reaching for her throat while the other coiled itself around her waist, throwing the both of them to the floor. The abruptness of their movement caused their chairs to overturn and fall back as well.

What Sydney felt at that moment was more akin to annoyance than panic. Her first night at the opera in weeks and this happens. Just her luck.
At once, her genteel, poised persona disappeared and her training kicked in. The moment they hit the floor, her heel of her hand struck his chin, forcing his head and his upper torso to lift backwards and off of her.
She had to be careful not to make too much noise and this forced her to change her tactics.

He choked for air, as he rather ungracefully tumbled off of her figure.
"Wha--"
His face darkened.

She took her time getting up and dusted herself off. Her eyes didn't leave his the entire time.
"Yeah, I'm not used to this either," she said smoothly, her English accent not as convincing as before.
Her stance was different. Less poise and more angle. It was obvious now that she was a seasoned fighter.

James tilted his head to one side confusedly, sizing the young woman up from his place on the ground. Then, his eyes narrowed.
"Who are you?"

"I guess it's only fair now that I know you're a rapist."
"I'm a peeved opera-goer," she said, her annoyance quite apparent in her voice.

"Please," he began, rolling his eyes as he picked himself up and straightened out the creases in his attire. "You put it so crudely. I, Miss Howard," he said, putting an unnecessary emphasis on her name, "am a lover of passion and pleasure and entertainment and freedom. A libertine, if you will."

"Yeah, you're a proper Casanova," she said scornfully.
"Well, how're we going to finish this?"
