"No- my personal life got to be a bit...too much for me."

*Syd grinned mirthlessly.*
"I guess both our lives fell apart," *she said quietly.*

"Sydney, what happened to you?"

*She paused for a moment, thinking about how to word everything.*
"Honestly? I can't remember," *she said dismissively as if it were the most ridiculous joke in the world. And, frankly, that how she felt.*

"Nothing?"
Irene felt a great deal of pity (mixed with a little envy.)

"I remember arriving in London and the few weeks that followed but, from what I can figure out, I've lost about a year and a half. I woke up in a hotel room in Zurich. Apparently, I'd checked in months before. There was even security footage," *she explained in low tones. She wasn't able to keep the frustration from her voice.*
"I shouldn't even be telling you this..."

*NEW NIGHT*
As the curtains came to a close for intermission, James chose to remain in his box, reclining lazily in his seat and sweeping his jaded gaze over the masses of people gathered for the night's opera.
There was such...potential in the crowd tonight.
((Any takers?))

((Oh, this ought to be interesting...))
Various... things had made her an entire two acts late to the new production of Eugene Onegin. She was not a happy camper. Regardless, Sydney was poised and graceful in her crimson bustle evening gown. With it, she was wearing the perfect set of jewelry. She was showing the perfect amount of skin and sparkle.
Sydney walked down the hall and turned into her box. Funny... her ticket said--
"I'm sorry," she began politely in a clean British accent. "I think there's been a mistake."

((*superflyingtackles*
Boy's about to get his ass whooped.))
Displeased at having his train of thought interrupted--particularly when that train involved the boarding of a passenger who would serve as his night's entertainment--James merely gestured the young woman away, arching his head towards her only ever so slightly...
...until he caught sight of her figure, emblazoned in jewels and a spectacular dress which clung to her curves in a rather satisfactory manner.
If he did say so himself.
His eyes widened for a fraction of a second and immediately narrowed again, as his pulse quickened.
"Pardon my horrific manners," he began, getting lightly to his feet. "I had presumed you were someone else...someone far less breathtaking."
He offered her his most winning smile.
"You said something about a mistake?"

((XD I'm tempted to have her go along with it. >>))
Sydney grinned lowered her head gratefully at the compliment.
"Yes, I'm afraid," she said, taking a step closer and extending her gloved hand to show him the ticket stub that clearly stated that box three was entirely hers that night. "This is box three, is it not?"

"It is," he agreed, offering her a slight nod, "but surely, there must have been some error in printing or in understanding. You see, I had also made reservations for this particular box tonight."
He retrieved a similar ticket stub from his trousers pocket and offered it to the young woman.
"Might we venture downstairs and inquire into the matter?"

She lowered her eyes and took a quick glance at the piece of paper.
How strange.
"Well," she said at the end of a sigh. "That would certainly be the more proper solution; however, I don't see how either of the two solutions they will undoubtedly choose will manage not to ruin one of our nights."
Sydney paused thoughtfully.
"Perhaps a more... diplomatic compromise can be reached?"

"Of course," he agreed, albeit a bit reluctantly. "I believe I would have no predisposition to sharing a box with a woman like you, Miss...?"

"...James North," he finished for her with a smile. "A delightful pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Bristow Howard."
He took up one of her gloved hands and placed a kiss upon it, allowing his lips to linger for several seconds on the soft fabric, as his eyes rose and met those of Sydney. He released her hand and retreated a step into the box.
"Oh, but I mustn't keep you standing there any longer--please do have a seat."
