((Sorry, I haven't played Twilight Princess--I've only played the original Zelda, Ocarina of Time, and Minish Cap. It's not like Kiba would care anyway, since there's no actual royalty in Wolf's Rain.))
Tsume was about to attack the warriors, but since they didn't attack on Moonshade's request, he left the slightly-confused Elves alone. Kiba, meanwhile, had dropped all intentions of attack as well as his human illusion, revealing burned fur and blistered front legs as Helen smeared some sort of cream on them.
"Looks pretty bad, but you've been SHOT before and you wouldn't let anyone..." He trailed off when Kiba didn't move, except for shifting his legs so Helen could reach a tricky spot. "Kiba?"
He walked over and gave the white wolf a nudge--no response. And he was still staring blankly at the crescent moon, keeping so still that if Tsume couldn't hear his heartbeat (which was weirdly slow for someone who'd just been going crazy), he could be dead.
"Kiba, you're acting like an idiot. Say something!" He ordered, standing above Kiba to block his vision.

Helen looked over at Kiba. When she noticed how still he kept, she got worried.
"Kiba, are you all right? Do you nead me to make you some medicines, or to send for a healer?"

Kiba snapped at Tsume when the gray wolf blocked his sight, continuing to look up at the moon after Tsume got out of the way.
He settled back into his position wordlessly, responding to neither of his companions.

Helen sighed with relief when she noticed Kiba snapping.
"Thank gods you're not dead yet."
She took one of her water skins, poured water into a bowl, and mixed some of her herbs in the water. She stirred it firmly, like she was used to from home in Troy, taking care of the wounded warriors. When she had prepared the medicine, she offered the bowl to Kiba.
"Kiba, I want you to drink this. It will help you."

"That's not going to work," Tsume informed her. "I don't know what's wrong with him, but he doesn't care about his wounds right now."
He stood in front of Kiba, glaring down at him to try and make him listen. "Kiba, GET UP. You said we'd go check out those wolves' territory, and we've got a while before we get there."

Helen looked at Kiba, then over at Tsume.
"Do you think he will get better?"

"He'll get better--the problem's figuring out when he will," Tsume told her. "Kiba? You're still in charge of guarding Helen, but I'm taking over until you snap out of it. Let's go."
He started walking, stopping after a distance when Kiba still didn't move.
"Kiba, get up!" He ordered. "I'm not carrying you!"

Helen looked over at Kiba, then at Tsume, now she really looked worried about him. She went over to Kiba and gave him a gentle hug, careful to not touch his wounds.
"I'm sorry to see you like this, Kiba." she whispered to him. "I wish there was anything I could do to help you feel better."
She stroke his fur gently while she spoke to him.

At Tsume's insistence and Helen's additional speech, he got up and waited as usual for Helen to get onto his back.

Helen hesitated for a moment, afraid she would hurt him if she sat on his back now that he was wounded. But she didn't want to hurt his feelings, so she climbed up, and tried to avoid coming near his wounds. She hoped the salve she had smeared on the wounds would help him get better soon.
She hugged him gently.
"I am so glad you are still with us, Kiba. We need you, you know. Especially I need you."
She blushed. That had sounded worse than she meant it to be.

"Is this about the wolves and their agreement?" Tsume asked, waiting for the two of them to catch up. It was obvious, of course--Kiba already said he'd prefer their species' extinction if the wolves here were making pacts with Elves--but he was only asking to make him talk.
It didn't work, since Kiba merely nodded as he caught up to the temporary alpha.

Helen's warm heart filled with compassion. Even if she didn't understand everything, she understood this had to be hard for Kiba, who had sacrificed so much for the Paradise he was talking about. She embraced him and hugged him gently, trying to offer him the love and comfort she could give. She felt it was not enough for such a loss.
"Do you think... if you spoke to them, they could have a change of heart?" she whispered shyly. She remembered he had spoken to sheep without problems. So why not other wolves?

"I don't think he'd care what those wolves have to say," Tsume told her. "You know how proud he is. If they manage to make him talk, though, I'll be glad."
((We should have a new day start, so we can meet up with your Wolfriders.))

Helen listened to Tsume and nodded. "I know how proud he is. His pride are among the things that makes me so fond of him." She blushed. She had almost said that she loved Kiba. Even if it was true, she had no idea how he would have reacted if he knew. So she tried to keep her love a secret for him, for now. ((I totally agree. I'll send in either Wolfrider you like ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ))

**NEW DAY**
While he felt physically better after a night's rest (Helen's medicine and the moonlight had reduced his discomfort to a mild stiffness), Kiba still didn't feel like talking as he followed Tsume through the forest.
The scent of wolves brought him out of his thoughts, however, and he growled out of habit--his instincts, combined with his low opinion of these wolves, told him not to go any further, and he slowed down considerably as they crossed the boundary and headed deeper into the territory.
"Kiba, hurry up," Tsume called from a yard or two ahead. "You're not thinking straight enough to be the alpha right now, and when you were, you said we should pass through anyway."
