"We'll pass through their territory," Kiba answered Tsume, ignoring Midna and Moonshade. "There are no wolves who can make pacts with other beings and keep their real nature. I'd rather we were the only wolves left if that's our only option."
He plodded over to his two companions with difficulty, sitting down next to Helen--his front legs and chest were only singed, but it was annoyingly painful to walk. The injuries were reflected in his human illusion with blistered arms and charred sleeves.
He'd continue his fight with Beraht later on--there were too many strange things here, too many humans with inexplicable powers, and too many concepts that he couldn't understand.
"You won't be much of a leader if you keep getting upset like that," he told Midna.

Yes, for now Midna was calm. She had a plan. That's what she needed to concentrate on now, and not get upset again.
"Thanks," she replied gratefully, nodding, and couldn't help but smile, a little cheered up, at the giggle. Moonshade really was too cute and innocent. "Oh, well now, why would he want her, then?" she replied in mock disgust. She was 17 herself, and so she thought Link had said he was. Of course, for her the years were different, as time differed in her home. "I bet she must look good, then, at least?"
Hearing Kiba anyway, she turned to glare at him, seeing his somewhat apathetic state now. "I think I can handle it, thank you very much. My people will first have to build up again, before any emotions of mine can affect them." With that and a snort, she turned away from him.

Helen looked up at Kiba with warm compassion showing in her eyes. She took him in her arms and pulled him closer to her, stroking his hair (fur?) gently.
"Rest, my dear." She said softly to him. "Let me take care of your wounds for now."

Moonshade looked at Midna and giggled.
"I don't know why anyone would do adult stuff. That is yucky!!!"
By the thoughts of the elf woman's looks, she shrugged indifferently. Beraht Cutter was MUCH cuter. She looked over at him for a moment, blushing while she did. Then she focused on the question again.
"They say she is pretty. Loooooong blonde hair, fair skin, eyes like sapphires, rosy lips, looks like a fairy from a fairy tale.... They say she is among the most beautiful women in the capitol."

"Oh, I'm quite sure it is," she replied playfully, shaking her head. This was going exactly according to plan, and she liked the girl. Perhaps if she played her cards right she might get to actually do adult stuff with Link after all.
For a moment, lost in thought of that, Midna didn't even notice Moonshade's daydreaming; then she immediately turned back her attention as the elf spoke. "Ah, I see...that does sound rather pretty," she replied, nodding and frowning inwardly. That did sound pretty, and she felt a stab of jealousy. Why was it that they always wanted pale blondes? Was that it, because of her complexion and hair color?
"I bet she must have a pretty name to go with that, then!"

Moonshade looked innocently up at Midna, and replied innocently to all her questions. Moonshade's heart was pure and innocent, and she had no idea what Midna had in mind with all her questions. She was only happy that someone actually noticed her.
"She is beautiful, and she really has a pretty name as well. Nessa Telemnar. My parents say she used to work as the Queen's chamber maid!!!"

At least Midna did notice her, that was true; she was enjoying her company. But she always had been a devious, scheming one, and wasn't above prying the secrets out with niceness.
"Oh, that is lovely. I bet the Queen was happy." She smiled, her eyes narrowing just the slightest bit. "Used to be? Where is she now?"

A faint moon appeared in the afternoon sky; it was nowhere near the full moon that would cure his burns as well as give him energy, but it was bigger than it had been last night and he was relieved.
"At least the moon is like ours," he said, keeping it in his vision as he curled up and tried to will night-time into coming. "You and the moon are the only things that make sense."
It wasn't clear if he was talking about Tsume, Helen, or both.

Moonshade smiled up to Midna, unsuspectingly replying to all her questions, without even noticing the narrowing of Midna's eyes.
"Oh, after the Queen was murdered, Nessa continued working at the castle. Then she met Ramses II and had a baby with him. And now she is engaged with Link. They live together in the capitol, in a tree house. They are planning to get married soon."

Helen fumbled in her belongings, and found a small box of salve she had made a while back. Now she opened it and started smearing salve on Kiba's arms.
"I hope this can ease your pain at least a little."
She said in a warm tone as she smeared his arms. Each touch was light, like a gentle caress of his skin.

Midna's smile would have been called tellingly sly from anyone who could understand such an emotion.
"Oh, I see...a terrible shame about the Queen. Well, I...I'm glad she's at least had a happy family life..." she added, trying not to grit her teeth. "That's nice, where is the capital? It sounds lovely, and I'd like to visit."

Moonshade had absolutely no idea what the word sly meant. She had never had such emotions. So she looked up at Midna and smiled back, happy to see Midna smile again.
"Oh, the Queen did not have a happy family life. Her husband was mean to her, he hit her and... doing adult stuff.... with others. Whatever that means. The only friend she had was the White Magic Shaman Leetah. Nessa was the Queen's chambermaid."
She thought of the direction of the capital.
"If you go south, all the way to the large emerald lake by the forest, then you go east for three hours, then you go south again for a day. That's how far the capital is from here."

Midna's mind was elsewhere for a few moments, and she let her gaze go distant. Then, again, she snapped back to attention, and nodded.
"Oh, dear..." she said, actually upset for someone other than herself. It had been a lot easier to get that lately. Sighing, she glanced around again and listened to the directions.
She nodded, looking up, and grinning. "Well...actually, if I know where it, I can get there even faster...you want to come with me?"

Moonshade looked over at Beraht Cutter for a moment, before looking at the elf warriors. "I don't think my parents would allow me to travel that far. Especially since I have school tomorrow. But I am sure that one of the warriors can follow you if you need escorte." ((The warriors are NPC characters, free for all to godmod ))

Now it was Midna's turn to miss subtext, and she did not see the glance at Beraht, instead simply nodding. The warriors, when called to, merely straightened, clearly a little disturbed at her appearance but willing to go with her, as she was in fact a princess. She acted like one, anyway. "Oh, I don't think I'll be needing that, eee hee! But thanks!" She raised her arms again, and in the sky above them a black portal with swirling green lines appeared. "Eee hee! See you!" she called, as she let herself swirl up into it. Twilight portals: the best way to travel. As she left, the ground under them would turn back to normal. ((...Er, and now where should I go? Oh, and Kiba--forgot to mention earlier, but in response to his jibe at her princess-hood: Midna: "It still appalls me that this world of light is controlled by that princess [Zelda]. A carefree youth, a life of luxury... How does that teach duty?"))
