He glanced at her curiously.
"How can you do it? I've never heard of humans doing things like that before. Well, except in comic books."

She pursed her lips and looked around "As far as I can tell it was passed down, Papa can do similar things, like uh, what was that word I read?" She snapped here fingers a few times "A mutation? Like in our genes?"
Marie's eyes light up and she laughed "Like an X-Men."
She'd read that comic book at Treszka's house.

"Well, if things like me can exist, why not X-men?"
With all the strange things he'd seen since coming here, Alex wasn't surprised by much anymore.

"Oh that would be so cool" she smiled and fluttered her hands a moment "and you're not a thing, you're a person. I mean an undead person, but still a person."

He gave her a faint smile.
"You don't think me a monster? I drink blood, after all."

"A monster? No, I mean some people would call me a monster for eating meat" she grinned.

"You have a unique reaction to what I am, then. Most citizens of Paris are terrified of vampires."
He gave her a small smile.
"I doubt someone could be afraid of you like that."

"You don't know vegans than" she winked, before loosening up completely.
"My Papa taught me to be kind and understanding, to everyone" she smiled. Marie had that kind of face that made people trust her and she was glad for it "And after Monsieur Louis gave Papa and Laszlo all that money for the shelter and saved Laszlo's life twice, although the first time was an accident, we figured not all vampires had to be bad. There's a nice lady named Magda too who promotes Vampire rights here in the city. I've never met her, but I've seen photos and she's got this big old head of red hair and she's more voluptuous than, I'm rambling."
She shook her head "Sorry I do that."

"No, you're not rambling.
...did you say Louis? Louis de Point du Lac?"
It would be an amazing coincidence if this girl knew his broody friend.

"Yes!" She grinned "He's a quiet man, but he seems very passionate."

"I know him! We're friends. I didn't think anybody else did."
Well, aside from Daniel. But that was not a subject he wanted to bring up right now.

"Oh then you must be good! Monsieur Louis is a good man, if from what I understand a little melancholy."

"Well...I wouldn't go by that metric. He's got some questionable friends. But, I'd like to think I'm an okay sort."

"I'm not as nice as you think," he said with a sigh, thinking of past experiences.
"But, now's not really the time or place to be getting into that."
