"Yea I recognize a couple places, I think Papa took us to that ice cream parlor like three years ago" she laughed.

Pausing first to make sure there wasn't anyone lurking in the shadows waiting to jump them, Alex jerked his head to the left.
"Yeah, I think that's the way back."

"Very cool."
She was attempting not to relax, keeping her options open at all times.
Trusting a stranger was dangerous.
Trusting a vampire was worse.

As he led the way, he kept his senses on alert, knowing full well just what lurked in the shadows of the city. He wasn't under any illusions that there were things that could hurt him--there were older vampires out there, for instance. He glanced up at the sky. Well, at least there wasn't a full moon right now.

She noticed him looking up at the sky and looked up as well.
"Paris is a dangerous place" she said as they rounded a corner to a area of town she was more familiar with.

"Yeah. I wish it was just lions, tigers and bears. That's easier to handle."

She smiled feeling her guard dropping, she hoped he wasn't manipulating her, because he seemed genuine "Look I- I know what you are" she continued smiling, hoping it would make this easier "and I figure if you were going to kill me you probably wouldn't actually be taking me home."
She saw her fathers shelter in the distance, a big white structure amongst all the stone.

On the inside, he did a double-take. But on the outside, he just looked confused. Better to play it safe, really.
"Why would you think those things? I'm just helping out."

She crossed her arms and shook her head "You're a vampire, I knew pretty much immediately, I, uh, I don't have to see teeth to be able to tell."
Marie laughed and threw her hand through her hair "Papa said there might be some good ones out there and I don't know I wasn't going to say anything? But I didn't want to get you home and I don't know have you eat everyone inside, but I don't think you'd do that would you?"

Alex looked at her warily.
"How can you know that? Usually only another vampire or a werewolf can tell just by sight. You're not either of those."
He was calm, not upset exactly, but nonetheless on guard. He'd been hearing about a rise in monster hunters recently, and he rather liked being in once piece. She didn't look threatening, but he knew better than to take things at face value.

His aura changed, a wary shade of blue, he was cautious.
"I'm not going to hurt you if that's what you're thinking" she replied "look you're a stranger and we know absolutely nothing about each other but since I outed you I might as well tell you."
She took a deep breath "There's a lot of people in this world, or so I've been told, with- let's just call them powers. Things that maybe you only read about in books" she held her arms below her chest and clutched herself "I've read somewhere that some vampires can read minds? Well I can do that too, I also read auras and-" she stopped herself from revealing the barrier part, even to a vampire she was sure that was bordering on weird.
"I read your mind earlier, I'm not very good at it yet so it was a little garbled, but I saw what you were. But I never got any hint of malice and like I said I wasn't gonna say anything and I dunno- I needed to tell someone."
She stopped talking and looked at the ground.

Alex was quiet for some time. He certainly understood beings with strange powers--he was a young enough vampire to have read comic books when he was a teenager--so it that wasn't what had him on edge. It was other things.
"I'd really appreciate it if you didn't just read my mind. Your mind is the only place you can truly have to yourself." He chided softly.
He crossed his arms, still a bit on the defensive though he was easing up on it.
"And not all vampires can do that. I can't."
Well, since everyone was being candid, might as well not dance around the being a vampire thing.

"You'd have read my mind if you could" she laughed "you run in to a stranger on the street while you're lost and have no idea who they are. You have to protect yourself and this is the only way I can."
She kept her arms crossed but she was smiling "Neither can Mr. Louis, but he's as harmless as a flea."

"I wouldn't, if I could. But that's because I know too many vampires who abuse that. Not...that I think you're like them. You're far too nice to be."

"You're right on that, I only use it to keep myself safe" she frowned "I don't even like being able to do it."
