She looked up at him mournfully.

"I think a few minutes will be sufficient."

"...can we... keep walking for now?" she asked desperately. Put this off just a moment longer...

"...yes, darling."

They started again. She was anxious now.
She stumbled suddenly, then, unexpectedly. Blinking as though about to cry, she looked downward, kicking at the snow to reveal some new piece of buried foliage. It felt like a root, but there were no trees about.

Loki frowned and kicked some of the snow away, then staggered back.
"Get back!"
There was a hand, a dark blue hand, sticking out of the snow.

Loki shot a bolt of green light at the hand on instinct. It made a sickly squelching noise, like a rock hitting a damp log, but nothing else happened.

It was difficult to even be pleased he was probably right with Teja this upset.
"...Teja darling?" Loki said slowly. "Don't look back there."

Teja's hysteric screams - coming out as short gasps - felt as though they were coming from someone else. She could see what was happening and knew dimly what it meant, and the details committed themselves to her memory, but this was so disconnected from her immediate conscious reaction to it that she felt hardly lucid.

"Don't look back there," he repeated. "We're going inside now, darling..."

She sank into the snow still clinging to his coat.

She held onto him and swallowed down air.
