He laughed weakly.
"And Veidt... chose this," he said softly.

"...as though he were already divorced from the rest of us," she said with a shifty glance downward.
She didn't want to believe where her thoughts were headed, but it was actually at the point where it made more sense to believe Veidt had aided Manhattan than otherwise.

He laughed again, more forcefully this time.
"He's not one of you. He's got a locked casket of a brain."

"I prefer to let you be a surprise," he said, grinning.
Something crunched under Loki's boot. He frowned and kicked away a bit of snow.
There was a frozen fern on the ground.

"...flowers? Flowers in the snow?"
Her voice sounded distant and wilting.

"Mister Veidt, what have you been doing..."
Another cleared patch turned up a small, ice-preserved purple orchid. Loki pulled it from the ground, turned it to waxed silk with a small hand gesture, and stood to tuck it over Teja's ear.

She wanted to giggle properly, but could only muster a queasy smile.

"We can leave now, if you'd like," he said, pulling her against him again.

"....no," she said dismally, voice acquiring that distant note again. "I think you're right. If he did it, and it really was right, then there's no reason not to know the truth, is there."

"I can come back alone, then-"

"I don't want you to be alone anymore."

His mouth dropped open momentarily.
"...Teja," he said softly.
