It did not take long for her to recuperate enough to travel again because of all those healing potions and injury kits Micaela liked to hoard as she played the game. Rather than be silent, she seemed to be making an effort to prove that she was all fine inside--she was sweet and friendly and smiling.
Of course, anyone who knew Ailwen knew that her trademark was her gravity--the way her tiny jokes came out of a deadpan face so that you weren't sure if she was serious or not, the way she could look a thousand years old. The way she was only comfortable with a sword in hand. She was a warrior, but this was a war with her heart she was not sure how to fight.
No surprise attacks, no Darkspawn--it was getting almost boring, really.
"Zev, Maya, do you think we'll get any excitement on this trip or will I have to fall ill again?"

Maya was a naturally sunny personality, and responded thusly to Ailwen. She didn't suspect anything was wrong, though if she had she would've been worried. She was growing fond of the Warden, and was starting to see her less as The Hero of Ferelden and more as Ailwen.
"Well, I'm not good at it, but I could summon an angry bear for us to fight." She said cheerfully.

"I think I can resist for now, but I won't forget. Zevran, don't you have anyone after you? It used to be I couldn't get on with ending the Blight without getting interrupted at every turn by someone's dark past," she admitted to Maya.

Oh, the stories she'd heard of Ailwen's adventures--from fighting politics in Orzammar to killing a damned dragon in the mountains and everything in-between, not to mention her companions on said adventures. It was the kind of stuff she grew up reading about.
"Hmm, hmm. Maybe harboring yours truly will cause trouble."
Saying it, though, sobered her mood a bit, and she shook her head. "Sorry. That wouldn't be funny at all, and it'd be my fault."

Ailwen smiled softly. "We can handle trouble. I've handled a lot of trouble, and the one thing I've accepted is that it never ends."

"From what I've heard about Ferelden, I'd agree with you." She said with a small smile.
She glanced off the path, something she'd been doing as a means of keeping watch for...whatever, and she noted rather off-handedly:
"Hm. Trees are different here."

Ailwen was a city elf, through and through, and thus did not make it a point to notice the trees.
"Different?"

"Yes--"
Though now that she was actively paying attention, she furrowed her brow.
"Huh. Yeah. I've never seen any of these before."
((Lorien trees. Two worlds encroach upon each other!))

Ailwen looked up. And then frowned. Deeply.
"... neither have I, and I don't pay attention to trees." And she'd traveled. Extensively. At least within Ferelden, and that was no small feat. These were.. odd. Graceful, as if they had been... told to grow that way.
That didn't make any sense at all.
"Be on your guard," she said in a low voice, one hand twitching as if she was going to grab her sword (taller than she was, taller even than Alistair--how do you handle that thing, anyway--they had measured, once).
If anything confirmed it for her, it was that the sounds were wrong. She knew what Ferelden sounded like. The noises... were not the same. The smell was not the same. It was wrong. "Something's not right."
((switch to Lorien?))

((Yes!))
Maya's footsteps slowed. There was something else she was noticing, something far more palpable to her--
Magic in the air. Everywhere, it seemed, surrounding them. The trees, dirt, the little animals and insects that one spied in the grass and bushes. It was an almost tangible presence, and gave Maya's skin a strange tingling feeling, outside...and in. As though her own powers were responding to it.
"Magic." She whispered. "It's eveywhere."
Not even the Circle Tower had been like this.

Suddenly, Ailwen could sense it too. Legend held that all Elves had once possessed the gift of magic, and perhaps it was stirring in her blood from some deep, long-forgotten past. Perhaps the magic was just that strong. But she felt it all around her, in the hairs on the nape of her neck and downing her arms; behind her ears as if someone had blown into them.
"Andraste's Grace; the only time I've felt anything like this was..."
The Brecilian forest. And she knew for a fact that this was not the Brecilian.
"This doesn't make any sense. We're headed for Highever; there isn't any thick forest like this for hundreds of leagues, and I know we were in the right place..."

Zevran had actually been incredibly bored for the most part. He should have been ambushed at least once by now. Or attacked by bandits. Or Darkspawn. Or something! But no, all they got were strange trees, and an aura of magic that even he could feel, and--
...
Now that... that was just not right. This feeling like a current running through the air that made his every hair stand on end and made his blood feel like it was running hot. He could feel his hand inch back to poke at the edge of one of his blades without his volition (a nervous habit he had been trying to get rid of, but being armed always calmed him).
"Now my sense of direction may not be the most reliable..." Zevran started in a hushed voice, "But I think I must agree with you. We should be close to Highever... but this is most definitely no where near."

"I don't like this. Something might have enspelled us, but I couldn't say what--"
She paused as, through the trees, she spied another thing she was sure could not be found in this part of Ferelden.
"Ruins."

"This isn't a spell. I don't... I've been enchanted before. It's not like this, this is... this is old. This magic has been here a long time."
She narrowed her eyes and pursed her lips. "We need to find out where we are. This is a road, of sorts... we'll come across something."

Zevren turned to Ailwen with his standard smile, though this one didn't quite reach his eyes, "Ailwen," He started lightly, "Shall I scout ahead? Heading into an unknown and probably dangerous path is exciting, yes, but not always smart."
