"It's a neuro-transferal mender!" The Doctor said indignantly, but he returned to the copper colored implement to the kit, and joined her on the upper level of the control room. "And yes," he checked the panels and struggled back into his coat, "I'd say it was about time right about--now!"

"And there is no way I'm remembering that," she bandied back, both because it was complicated and because he said they were going one place before taking her back. She somehow doubted she was going to see the thingywhatsit again.
Off she went to the doors, opened them again and went to mother and child. She made her apologies as best and quickly as she could but essentially had to grab Elizabeth and go. The little girl was crying by the time Micaela pulled the doors open and closed them behind her, with attempts at soothing going unnoticed in favor of cries for Mama. As it turned out, even Elizabeth was just a little girl. "Take me back! Take me back! I want mummy," she wailed, as Micaela held her from squirming away and tried to stroke her back and shush her.
"Okay, nothing I can do about the baby; now would be a good time OW--" Hair was being pulled.

VWOORP VWOORP VWOORP
The brightly lit chamber shuddered as they de-materialized from the cell of the doomed consort.
"You know," The Doctor said as he reached over, "I used to have candy on me all the time, jelly babies, and gummy, sweet things, with lots of color, that'd be rather useful right now." he pushed in one of the pumps.
VWOORP VWOORP VWOORP
"And--here we are, the Hatfield estate, several miles outside London. Just--" The Doctor glanced at the scanner," a few hours after we left, sunny, with a mild breeze."

"Ohhh you're going to mess up her sleeping schedule--" She coughed. Right. Bigger problems. Including the crying child. It had subsided to a whimper after she'd been distracted by the VWOORPing, punctuated by the occasional sniffle.
"Why are we at Hatfield," she demanded of the Doctor, then buried her snot- and tear-covered face in Micaela's shoulder.

"Because--" The Doctor quickly flicked off several switches as the machine "settled" all around them. "Hatfield is the estate where records attest Elizabeth would spend most of her early life."
"Now, c'mon," he bounded past them and pushed open the doors.

"Is it somehow protected from space agents? Or are we pretty much just hiding?" She followed, still patting Elizabeth's back as she sniffled. The poor dress was ruined, which was a shame...
Micaela suddenly laughed.
"You know, I didn't realize before. I've never been to England before this."

"You see! Always a first time for everything." Said the Doctor cheerfully. "And no, it's not protected from time agents, not at all, utterly vulnerable, they could walk right in any minute."
They had materialized in the middle of some trees, a short walk up a dirt road from some high, looming gates. Presumably the entrance of the Hatfield estate.

"If she's in residence in London, hopefully nobody will be here..." She was extremely grateful they'd got the right location and date, give or take a few hours rather than decades. She adjusted the sleeping princess, glad to have a bed waiting to put her in. "Is there a plan?"

The Doctor strode down the dirt road, "Oh plans, Micaela, plans are like architectural--supportive things--they're good to have but they let you down sometimes, so it's always good to have back up, or a spare."

"... so you have two plans?"
It seemed like interpreting it that way would be entirely too good to be true.

The Doctor failed to answer, but by this time they had drawn up to the gates, where a man, presumably a servant wiped his hands repeatedly on his leather apron and after glancing at the the blank paper the Doctor held out, scurried away and returned a few moments later with a group of better dressed men, and a slightly stiff, but not wholly unkind looking woman.

Ohh, gosh. People.
"Who are we now?" She leaned and muttered to the Doctor.

The Doctor shrugged, "Sir John Smith and the Lady Kat--"mischief tugged at his grin, "I believe you said it was?"
He turned his attention to one of the men "Yes, terrible journey--thank you--we were set upon by--road--highway--bandits, and that's why we're here--the way we are, but the important thing is that the princess--oh, wait" he winced, "now it should be her ladyship shouldn't it? Is safe." He gestured grandly at Micaela.

"I said Kay, Kat is her--" future caretaker, but Micaela zipped up when they talked to the staff. There was the additional confusing fact that she had in fact pretended to be Katherine Champernowne earlier in the night. The housekeeper, especially, did not look too impressed, perhaps even suspicious. "And where is Lady Bryant?"
"She was taken ill," Micaela immediately covered, "and sent me ahead with the child, and Sir John to escort us. The, er... Mistress Seymour thought it best if the ... Lady Elizabeth were not in town for her mother's... execution." The face she made and tone she used insinuated that it was a getting-the-last-one's-kid-out-of-the-way sort of thing, which wasn't exactly fair to Jane Seymour but anything to keep her from getting in trouble for kidnapping the Princess. Former Princess, future Queen. Weird position to be in, really.

"Are there no others from the royal household---?"Began one sharp-eyed gentleman, the Doctor cut him off with a careless wave as the group turned in the direction of the manor house.
"What? No, of course not! Why would his majesty send a whole mob when he can send his best!"
