"My father and I used the 'leaders know best' excuse for our actions, too. Didn't turn out too well," Azula mocked as she tried to dance to one side of the charge. Heh. If this Midna didn't sound so self-rightetious this would be much more stressful than it... She didn't quite succeed, catching Midna's sparking charge along one arm and gasping as the hungry shadows burned along the edge of her bicep.
The fallen princess hit the ground and channeled all the energy she could readily tap into a deafening cone of blue fire up at the still-moving Midna, eyes narrowed as she breathed heavily from her prone position. The stream ended entirely too soon for Azula's liking, her eyes darting around for signs of her hopefully charcoalized target.

"Of course. One has to--you know what?" she interrupted herself as she saw her blow land, feeling a momentary rush of excitement for it, probably not too wholesome. "I probably sound like one of those bard-song characters, and anyway you wouldn't appreciate it. So, there's going to be a lot less talking...a lot more killing. No offense." As long as she was going to sound like either a two-bit heroine or villainess, why not enjoy it? She raised her sword.
Then, in just a moment, she realized what was about to happen, and turned to dive, closing her eyes and dropping her sword; moments later, there was a moment of silence...before Midna slowly picked herself back up. From being in the line of fire, she realized with a pained wince, she had some injury on the left side of her face, though she obviously couldn't tell how much--what was more striking was when she looked down. "You...ruined...my armor!" Oh, that was it...no more Miss Nice Midna. "You've been killing my soldiers...trying to stop my one major move...taunting me at every turn...burning me...and you even would ruin my clothing? Sorry, but I'm not in a forgiving mood! Your light is going out!" Having picked it up again, the sword wavered in the air for a few crucial moments above Azula's head.

*On a rooftop in a different part of town, Micaela's eyes snapped open, glowing greener as they always did when she was dealing with the vast amounts of power in the universe. Almost against her will, she rose, her hands above her head and that head tilted backwards, as if to reach for the sun and pull it back into place.*
*Her hair had abandoned its bun, and dangled about her shoulders, catching the odd light and twinkling. She shut her eyes--more like clenched--and concentrated. A pain was building in the back of her head, and sweat dripped down her face, but she didn't notice. As if on cue, she knew that now was the time. She could see, clear as anything, that Azula was about to die, an she knew if she didn't do this now, it would happen. The moment had come; the deus ex machina was due. Every muscle in her body tensed with effort, and the pain became worse and worse until...*
*Release. The last thing she saw before she tumbled out of consciousness was a blue sky and the sun at its zenith--after that, she lay on the roof, looking very small indeed.*

Azula, for those few uncertain seconds as Midna nerved herself up to kill her, a smoking and intimidating shadow standing above her with blade in hand, was a mass of tumbling thoughts and fears and confusion. This was it. She was going to die. After everything, all her plans and triumphs and failures... Micaela had failed, and Princess Azula of the Fire Nation was going to die under a cursed sky, Agni bound in chains of unholy magic above her.
Then the spell broke, the sun returned, and the confusion melted away like shadows before the noontide light. Everything was clear.
"Just as planned," she breathed, lips quirking slightly, feeling the pain and exhaustion vanish in the flood of energy pouring from the freed sun. In that perfect moment, she had an inspiration to try something new, pushing to her feet and whiping both arms around as she slipped under Midna's guard. Her fingers trailed sparks, and when both hands were pointed right at her foe's stomach, twin bolts of lightning discharged at point blank range.

The sudden reappearance of the sun halted Richard's advance, and he glanced quickly to Midna. He didn't do anything foolish like sacrifice himself for his ally. But he was concerned.
Mostly that he suddenly saw victory slip from between his fingers.
"Have at thee, witch!" he cried, brandishing his sword and lunging for the girl--the boy clearly of no concern to anyone.

"On the contrary, sir," Dr. Horrible sarcastically emphasized the title, "Azula hasn't promised me anything. I'm the one who wants to fix everything wrong with the world, and I can't do that if you and your MINIONS come and take your army into an unprepared country!"
Damn it, that sounded like he CARED about people! Say something more evil, say something more evil... Another few mooks tried to rush him, but he only paid enough attention to zap them with his Death Ray.
"And she may not be human, but YOU are."

There she is! Kiba spotted Midna near the building, charging through the soldiers after finally catching her scent. Stopping a fight was one thing, but starting a war? Damn nobles and their useless battles!
"You! PRINCESS!" He yelled as a lucky hit from someone's lance knocked him off-balance, and he scrabbled to regain his footing. "I'm not letting you get away this time!"
He wrenched someone's sword from their grip, tackling him out of the way as the sun came out and nearly blinded him. He shook it off and jumped onto a nearby fence, running along it in his growing fervor to kill Midna before she could pose a larger threat.

"Azula, watch him!" Billy forgot about the Death Ray (it wasn't good with objects moving as fast as Richard) and pulled out a grenade-like object--the last of the Nightmare Fuel he'd made for Bad Horse before he came here. Sure, Bad Horse could just kick his victims in the head, but he preferred to psychologically torment them before he did.
He shot another mook with the Death Ray, then threw the Nightmare Fuel at Richard while Azula took care of the other princess. Even if it didn't hit Richard directly, everyone in a twenty-yard radius would be affected once they inhaled it.

So, a petty tyrant, was he? Ineffectual and callow, Richard judged.
"What the devil has that to do with anything?" he roared. "I shall deal with you--"
But before he could do any such thing, his sword spun away from his hand as a giant wolf impacted with him unexpectedly. Richard toppled unceremoniously, his balance never perfect, and before he could think to right himself he felt a cold liquid splash over him, trickling under his collar most unpleasantly.

Billy slipped on a seemingly-innocuous thing that looked like a metal doctor's mask as Richard got hit, and within seconds the liquid started combining with the oxygen and turning into a gas. Someone was yelling that the princess wouldn't get away (he didn't know which one), but he backed away as a random dark-haired guy yanked Richard's sword away and tackled him, then streaked towards Azula and Midna.
"Azula, someone's heading for you!" He yelled, picking the Death Ray back up and trying to close the quickly-widening gap between them. How is he not impaling himself on the fence posts?! He wondered as he ran.

Still smarting from the burst of fire, and quickly teleporting to the side of the lightning, Midna heard someone else enter the fray amidst all the screaming and chaos and zapping--oh, it was that damned crazy wolf. She was absolutely furious now, and about to get desperate--still, she had a lot of cunning, and wasn't about to give up that easily. So, just as she heard a faint hissing noise, she herself made a feint, pretending to collapse over. Moments later, however, she rose up again, this time in imp form. Needless to say, it was far less intimidating...but she had a plan. "EVERYONE SHUT UP! This conflict...who do you think I am?! You think you can just do this to me? This is idiocy! This is madness! But I! Am! MIDNA!"This was followed in just a moment by...well, it wasn't probably immediately clear whether it actually happened or whether the gas just took effect, but in short order, Midna used what fraction of the true power of her ancestors she had to... make herself more intimidating. That is to say, she had become a monster larger than the Opera House itself.

Out of range of the gas, Erik watched all of this dispassionately. They were all idiots, and bunglers at that. Still, no one had threatened the opera house yet, so he really didn't think it was any of his business.
But the creature now towering over the opera was a different matter. Only in a sense, however, because it was hardly a problem Erik was currently equipped to deal with.
"Another damned revolution!" he muttered.

Azula had been too absorbed into her suddenly not quite one-side duel with Midna to avoid taking a first whiff of the acrid Nightmare Fuel toxin, the chemical adding a wonderful element of uncertainty to the mix of pain, adrenilien, restored sunlight, and constantly-lurking madness powering her through this fight
Midna's two rapid fire transformations didn't help her unstable mood at all.
Azula's pupils dilated, backing away from the monstrous Twili quickly as she could while maintaining her guard, as the gas made flickering images of Aang in the Avatar State replace Midna in her eyes every few seconds. Oh Agni take her... Not another fugue, not now, not when she was so close to winning... her comeback, her renewal... He had come to take her Bending just as he had her... This was.... Agni! Not real! Couldn't let him touch her! No no no no! Azula was hyperventilating, inadvertently making the symptoms worse.

Midna becoming a giant monster did not help matters, but she was suddenly the least of his worries as Richard, his skin a sheen of sweat, looked down to find all four of his limbs twisted and useless. His armor sagged ridiculously over his withered legs; when he cried out, all that emerged from his throat was garbled syllables that meant nothing.

This was it; Midna was convinced that it was high time for a victory. From her vantage point above the city, she was about to raise one of her feet once more for a...slightly messy victory. To be sure she was aiming right, she looked down at the street and ohGoddesseswhatwasgoing on?She must have inhaled some of the gas after all because she was at home, but it wasn't home. No...wait, it was, but this was home under her parents. Years ago. Looking down she found that she was a child again as well. Disturbed, she looked up, and who was there?! It...was Zant. And he was holding a flower. She remembered this."Midna? I got this for you..." Then she would take it, and giggle, and they'd--NO! It can't be! That's dead and gone!Frantically, she attempted to wave it away, her arms probably taking out a swath of buildings.
