He grinned.
"Where I'm from, Isa, it's the year 2010. There's...been more than rock 'n roll since then. All sorts of crazy branches so you end up with Heavy Metal or Goth Rock and god knows what else.
...I sound like rock, huh?"
Well, there was an interesting thought.

"Wow" she smiled "that's wicked!"

"I dunno what you'd make of some of it." He said, trying to imagine Isa listening to something like Rob Zombie or Marilyn Manson.

"Oh I'd love to hear it, I mean, I come from such a conservative time that, well" she laughed "it was really just boring. It's why I joined the nurse corps."

"Ha, well, I could give you band names, but I don't know where you'd find their stuff."
Did people sell CDs in this place? He'd once seen a guy with a laptop, so...it was possible.

"That would be awesome, I'm sure that Simon could give me some information, he's from another time. But way past a time where you come from."

"He might know where to buy that sort of thing, anyway. I could tell you where to go in Dracheheim, but...damned if I know how you'd do it in Paris."

"Although, he did once say something about a space ship" she trailed off "so who knows exactly what kind of music he listens to" she shrugged, taking the recalled information with a grain of salt. "Anyway" she turned to Hazel "stop twirling for a moment and listen up."
"Hazel you remember when you first started taking lessons with me?" The girl nodded "I'm going to sing a verse then you're going to repeat it mmkay, so we can show Laszlo here a little of what we do mmkay?"
Isa began to sing the first lines of Summertime and Hazel would repeat them.
Isa's voice was well suited for the song, a mix of opera and soul, although the sound didn't make a whole lot of sense coming out of a woman like her. The voice was big and imposing.
Of course Hazel's was pure soprano, hinting at a deeper sound that would come with age.
As they finished she smiled "Before I started giving her lessons Hazel couldn't hold any of those notes, and I figure, since you're voice is much more mature, it won't take long before you're just as amazing as she is."

He stayed where he was, unobtrusive, during the singing listening to the counterpoint of voices, seemingly casual but quite focused on them.
"Ehhh, dunno about that. I've heard that you don't really come into your own until you're in your fourties. But I'll do my best."

"Na uh, I've heard ladies here way in to their forties that sound like cows!"

Isa snorted "High pitched horrible cows, uh, Miss Carlotta, you'll have heard of her I'm sure."

"Doesn't mean they all are." He said defenisvely, thinking of other opera houses.
"And I don't think there's a Carlotta here, at least not anymore."

"Oh I'm sure she's here, haunting these halls worse than any opera ghost ever could" Isa couldn't stand the woman for more than one reason "I figure she just hides in her closet, waiting to make the next opera a flop."

"Um...okay." He said, taken a bit aback by some of the vitriol.
"SO...I'm not sure what I should be doing right now."

She smiled and stood up from where she was leaning on and sat down at the piano and began playing a soft tune. "Haze dear, why don't you go in the other room while we get situated here hrm? You know what you need to do, after we're finished I'll test you and time'll be up mmkay?"
Hazel nodded and popped in to the other room.
"Okay, let's just warm up your vocal cords like I showed you before, we'll sing a few songs and we'll be done for the day. I figure you can come in every Wednesday, while Hazel comes in on Fridays. I have a few more students throughout the week, and Wednesday is my most open day as I don't work that day."
((How she juggles, work, school and lessons, I'll never know.))
