"So what is it you people do for fun around here? So far the only thing unimpeded by nature of being a female is riding. There has to be something else, or you'd have a lot more homicidal housewives." She said, pleasantly, but it was clear she was used to a modern city. And air conditioning.

Olivier wasn't sure how best to answer, as he'd told her of the things he found might be of interest, but the fact was he really didn't get out as much as he'd like, and there was much he missed out on.

Laurent, though, did know.
"Well, aside from the endless stream of parties, or lazing about the house, there's always the wild runs through countryside after-hours."
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught Olivier's surprised expression--but of course, how could the much less experienced Olivier know about it?

"I was thinking more which manor has the largest collection of books, or the best-tuned pianoforte," she laughed, "but I suppose that would do?"

"There are those, too," he said with a roguish grin. "Though the wild runs are far more entertaining."
Olivier was mutely staring at him, wondering when he would explain what the 'wild runs' were.

Of course Evie wasn't one hundred percent sure what they were either, but admitting as much would be terribly embarrassing. Besides, after four years of high school in New York City with a bunch of bored, spoiled rich kids... little surprised her as far as revelry went.
"You'll have to convince me before I return to Paris in two weeks, or take up crochet and heavy drinking. Whichever comes first."

"Well, I hope I can convince you," he said with a wink.
"Wouldn't want to end up with such a loss as a woman like you turning to crochet and drinking."

"And what exactly am I like, Monsieur Desmarais?" She challenged, with a slight smirk.

"A far sight better than what one is usually presented with in these lands." Olivier said, beating Laurent to the answer.
Laurent quirked a brow, but for once he was giving his nephew an almost impressed look rather than an annoyed one. A look that actually seemed to convey "well said".

"Couldn't have put it better myself." He confirmed.

"Now don't insult the d'Aubin twins, or dear Jacqueline Martin." She said mock-sternly, alluding to two shrewish, sallow 21-year-old maids who lived in the vicinity and a 24-year-old bourgeois heiress who put one in mind of a hawk--all of whom she had already ascertained to be after Olivier (and his estate), and all of whom were generally odious. It was clear, however, that she was teasing.
She could see, of course, the fact that Olivier and Laurent were in competition. For everything, not just her attention, but any girl would have been flattered. She may have been enjoying it. Just a little.

At the mention of the ladies, a rather humorous-looking pained expression crossed Olivier's features.
"Ah...well..."

Laurent could not quite stop himself from chuckling.
"My poor, poor nephew. I can't imagine."

"Just... suffice it to say that Jacqueline can go on about Chinese Crested dogs longer than anyone I've ever met." She said to Laurent. Upon checking her watch, she raised her eyebrows in some surprise. "Oh, Lord, I'm late for tea with Uncle Nicki..."
Evie nudged her horse into turning around. Looking over her shoulder, she waved. "See you two later." And off she went, swiftly picking up into a canter.

"Farewell! It was good to see you again!" He called after her retreating figure. "Take care!" Laurent added. When Evelyn was out of side, there was an awkward silence as Laurent and Olivier were left there together .
