"Oh, I'm sure my uncle will have a box." She said nonchalantly. "I wonder what soprano they'll cast..."

"That's part of the buzzing, too. Whoever it is, I can't wait to see it. It's supposed to be a fanciful comedy, with a lush production."

She smiled becomingly. "Well, I hope you'll join me. My uncle hates the opera, and his box always seems to be empty."

"Hate the opera? Ah, I mean, I would love to join you."
Was there a silly grin on his face? He couldn't tell. He knew, though, that he couldn't believe such a good turn of events.

Just as he accepted her invitation, they crested a hill, giving them a lovely view of the valley surrounding the Desmarais estate. In the very center, like a grey pearl in a very green palm, sat the chateau, surrounded by parkland and fields and near-glowing in the afternoon sunshine. "Oh, that is absolutely breathtaking..." She said, slowing her horse.

He heaved a sigh at the sight of the house, appreciative of it even with the frustrations he knew awaited him there.
"Sometimes, I can't believe that that's my home." He said softly.

"I'm starting to see why you don't like to leave," she chuckled. "Anyone would be lucky to live there..." Of course she loved their chateau in Normandy, but this one rivaled the main house in the Loire. "It's so odd, when you're used to apartments and skyscrapers, to think about living in these big houses. How do you fill up all the space?" She teased.

He laughed a little.
"If I could fill it, I would. I've heard stories that at one time, quite a large number of family members were all housed under that one roof."
That had been quite some time before even his grandmother had been born. Sadly, it was one of the many bits of evidence that the Desmarais had been on a decline over the years. As far as Olivier knew, all that remained of the bloodline was himself and Laurent.

"I've only got two brothers and no cousins--I know how that feels. But, it makes room for plenty of friends." She added the last part with a bright smile.

His mood softened at the smile.
"You're quite right."
((I feel about wanting to, but part of me wants Laurent to appear and crash the party. <_<))

((Do it! They've bonded enough and I can't think of anything else cutesy for them to say.))
Evie shook out her hair and put it back up in a bun--an automatic response to the gathering sweat on her neck. It was a very hot afternoon, and she had brought an elastic hairband, thinking she wouldn't see anyone.
"Lord it's hot out here; makes you wish we were closer to an ocean."

"There's a minor Desmarais manor by the sea, as a matter of fact." Came a very familiar voice from behind them.
Laurent had been out horseback riding as well, though his motivation behind it was boredom rather than wanting to escape from any duties for a little while. He'd spotted the two a little while before hand, but had taken this long to catch up as he'd moved up to the pair slowly.

Evie was busy shucking off her jacket. Underneath she was wearing a light grey t-shirt, which she assumed would probably shock them, but she was already wearing pants so she'd chalk it up to unusual American fashion trends. Besides, they'd visited their own Paris, which was essentially a black hole in the continuity of the universe, and probably should have seen out-of-place clothing by now (interestingly enough, it turned out if she and her parents went to Paris in any jet besides the Bass Industries corporate jet, they wound up in Paris 2009, without all the crazy).
"Good afternoon to you, too." She said without turning around as she heard Laurent approach. Her face had done a combination of turning pink and involuntarily smiling.

Olivier's cheerful expression slipped a bit, and almost sagged a little in the saddle as he mumbled out a:
"Hello, Laurent."
He didn't look askance at Evelyn's attire, as she was right: having been to Paris, he'd seen some rather interesting and varied fashions before, though they still took to some getting used to.

Laurent was used to a wide range of bizarre attire, not just because of Paris but because of his travels around the world. Whatever smirk that might have appeared at Olivier's reaction to him this time did not show, and instead a very sincere smile was to be had.
"A pleasure to see you both on this lovely day."
