Olivier chuckled, spurring the gray gelding into a gallop.
"I accept that challenge!"

Evie urged her mare on, leaning into a crouch to better stay on the horse, but since she didn't have a clue where they were going and didn't know the terrain, she slowed up after her horse calmed down.
"So how is it you don't go completely insane in the countryside?"

Seeing her slow, Olivier did so as well, catching up and eventually riding side-by-side.
"I...well." He said, not sure how to answer.
"I dunno. I've always lived out here, so I can't compare to the city, but there's plenty that happens to keep one busy. Or if nothing occurs, I go and find something."

*She smiled sheepishly.*
"City-raised. I was born around here, but New York is my home, much to my mother's disappointment and my father's jubilation."

He chuckled.
"I always wondered what it'd be like to live in a place like Paris. I know there are some families that have their estates there, but I've always found it hard to picture what city life was like."
((Though I imagine Laurent as being a lot more worldly than Olivier.))

((Well I feel like Laurent didn't stick around the house all the time--he probably had a phase where nobody really ever knew where he was except for when the bank account would have a withdrawral... from Constantinople or some other exotic place))
"I suppose I can see the benefits of raising a family in the country, but there's really no place but the city to be a young person. The independence, the nightlife... but surely you've spent at least some time on your own in Paris?"
Young noblemen were generally supposed to, right? That or they went off on a Grand Tour, or something.

((Lol...I can see him doing that. And Olivier getting exasperated with him. "Glasgow?! What's he doing there?!"))
"I have. I've mostly spent time at the opera and the theaters, and sometimes when there's a ball...and when I can get away from estate affairs, I head for the park."
He felt rather sheepish, since he had the feeling that he was completely missing out on something, but not sure what. Laurent would likely know, but then Laurent was a lot freer to do as he wished.

"Well I must admit I love the opera." She offered, since she felt he was more likely to have something to say on that matter.

"Ah, it's wonderful, isn't it? What is your favorite?"

"Donizetti, Lucia di Lammermoor, but anything Puccini is a close second." She said, smiling. "I do love a good tragedy."

"I'm partial to Mozart, though your choice is excellent. I don't recall the Populaire running that one, at least not recently. Ah! But something new is coming, I've heard."

"Oh? What are they planning?"
She would always be partial to the Met, but the Populaire put on a good show, at least from what she could remember from their trips here.

"At first it was just a rumor, and so I didn't believe it, but it's now been confirmed that a brand-new opera, written by Mozart and Beethoven collaborating, will be put into production!" He was excited at the prospect, and it showed.

She raised her eyebrows.
"Really? Well I certainly hope to get tickets..."
That didn't exist in her home timeline, which made it all the more exciting.

"Oh, yes. I'd heard it had been in the making for a long time now, and that finally the composers had finished it and it was ready for performance. I'm hoping, too, to get tickets...but I think the line will be a long one. There's a lot of talk circling around this one."
