"No doubt about that. I just wish there was a way to learn more about his role in this mess--we know what started it, but not what else he's been up to. Like, the...pirate and the navy. How does a vampire figure in?"
He heaved a sigh of frustration.
"If only we knew someone else that could tell us--getting the information out of him would be extremely difficult."

*That would certainly make things easier, but who? Brandi's brow furrowed in contemplation.*
"Maybe there's another way." *It sounded kinda crazy, but what part of this plot didn't?*
"I think maybe we should try more research. I think perhaps if we look at some of the other histories, maybe we can come up with a common thread or something."
*She headed back to the closet with new purpose, digging around for a moment before procuring a white board and dry erase markers.*
"Ok, so aside from Bartlett and Van Helsing, what other lives do you remember. It doesn't have to be names, just...tell me what you remember."
*There had to be a pattern.*

He nodded.
"I can definitely research Bartlett at least, as I have his name and where he operated from."
He watched as she bustled about, and once she'd set up the whiteboard and made her suggestion, he fell silent as he tried to dredge up memories--any memories, no matter how small.
"I do remember being...well, a gladiator in Rome. I was briefly this man...but I can't recall his name. Leopold. But I get the feeling that I was a policeman, once."

*She listened intently, not wanting to distract him as he tried to pull up the memories. Roman gladiator. That didn't sound familiar in the film direction, save for the off-handed comment in Van Helsing, but she'd see what she could find. And a policeman? That didn't ring any bells either. But she dutifully wrote it down on a chart she was starting. There was a column for him, her and Drac, as well as one for general time/place.*
"Ok...hmm..." *She beat her brain for policemen roles. Why did Kris have to disappear? She could have IMDBed it in no time.*
"Any more details on the law officer? A time period, a place? Maybe even an event?"

A time, a place...a time, a place...
He furrowed his brow, willing more memories to surface.
"London...that was in London..." He blew out a breath of frustration as he hit a block, until something else swam to the surface.
"Wait...there were killings, people being attacked by a wild animal...that has to be Dracula. But not like...er, the story about him...this is different."

*The marker thuded against the board as she hashed out 'London' next to policeman. She stared at it for a long moment, but nothing came. She sighed in frustration, rubbing the bridge of her nose. Clicking the marker shut, she did what she always did when she felt a mental block. She started to pace. Policeman...London...animal...ugh! This was hard.*
"I...I don't know. The only thing I can think of that even loosely corresponds would be Van Helsing. He'd been in London, right? After...Hyde. He's kinda like an animal."
*She sighed, not slowing her pace. But it wasn't like there was a movie about Jeanne and Bartlett. They could be completely off the map.*

"It's what I thought, too, but...I'm not sure how I can tell the difference, but it's not a Van Helsing memory. In fact--Helsing memories seemed to be the most clear that I have."
He shook his head.
"Though I don't know why."

*Brandi paused her step, frowning. Who else could there be? She nodded decisively.*
"Then maybe we should start with that one. I mean, since we're confident on Dracula's role, and yours...it might be the most logical step we're overlooking."
*She tapped the marker against her leg.*
"If I am...was...Anna, then...hmm..." *She followed the plot through step by step.*
"He wanted her because she was the last of the Valarious line, the ones sworn to kill him. Well, and I'd argue the tit factor too, but... I don't know how either would affect the current timeline."

He snorted at the tit comment, but then turned thoughtful on the subject of the timeline.
"Well, I'm only going by the original novel's time, which places Van Helsing in 1888 or so...the policman I'm fairly certain comes later, I think in the 20s...but the pirates...?"

"Twenties..." *Brandi frowned slightly, trying to think of anything she'd seen of him in that time period. Nothing. Any of her characters? Not really. The only thing that kept popping up was Dillinger and her heart ached at the thought of Cry-Baby. But that wasn't the task at hand and she kept trying to push the thought away. But it stuck with her.*
"Huh? Pirates?" *She looked up to him, blinking.*
"What about them?"

"When was it? I can't quite dredge up a date for that part."

"Oh!" *Well that part should be easy right? Brandi had never really considered it. Obviously Jeanne Dufour had been late 1800's, but Thorne... She shrugged.*
"Golden Age I think. So...early 1700's? I don't have anything more concrete."
*Still, she noted it on the white board.*

He nodded.
"That...sounds about right, though I couldn't tell you how I know that, when I don't remember...wait. I remember something else."
His expression turned to one of surprise.
"I was...a conquistador. You--"
Señora...
"--a noblewoman." He narrowed his eyes. "I have this odd image of myself in armor in my head, and you, or who you were, dressed very elaborately." He blinked. "I think that's the 1400s."

*That one Brandi knew all too well.*
"Spain." *She breathed softly, not looking at him.*
"She--I mean, I-- was the Queen of Spain."
*Her marker fell against the smooth surface of the white board. Lips twisting slightly, she tried to figure out the implication of that particular timeline and Dracula's involvement. She wondered if there had been the cancer as well and she seemed troubled by some of the implications.*

He rubbed at his forehead.
"That one gives me an odd feeling--hang on. A tree?" He shook his head.
"Never mind, I think my brains are a bit scrambled right now."
