Anna watched as the father closed the door.
She felt home with him, because if anything, she knew he would never lie to her, never hurt her in anyway. He was gods child just as she was, a servant of the lord and, a man above all else.
She smiled and held her hands together tightly and realized that it wasn't death she feared, but leaving those she had come so close to behind. But in heaven she would truly be home, no more sickness, no more hatred, no more pain.
Only.
"I wish I could I have done more..."
For everyone, for... for him.
She stood up slowly from the bed and dressed in her night gown, removing the scarf from her head. She lay down, ignoring the pressure in her chest, ignoring the cough waiting to come, ignoring all of the pain and focusing on the days to come.
For better or for worse.

**DAYS, WEEKS, OR MONTHS LATER**
Anna sat smelling a large red rose and smiled as she preened the bush carefully.

*Joseph approached her quietly, not wishing to startle her. She looked good. Well, for someone that was... He lowered his eyes respectfully.*
"Good afternoon, Anna. You've done wonders with it." *He gestured lightly to the plant.*

"Thanks" she said softly, she had heard him coming "I've been reading some of the gardening books they have here."

*Joseph's smile was warm as he knelt next to her.*
"So...you are happy here then? You are...finding what you need?" *His eyes were hopeful.*

Anna nodded with a smile, she felt better than she had felt in a long time but that wasn't saying much. She coughed lightly and sighed "It's much better than Paris."

*Joseph nodded, understanding the statement on a level that did not need to be spoken. Things were simpler here. God was closer, it seemed and it did much to rejuvenate even the dying spirit. He smiled, his eyes ever watchful. The moments with her were limited, but then again, no man knows the hour of his passing.*
"Anna...is there anything that you want to do..." *How to put it?* "...while you're here in England? There is no reason we can't go down to the village if you'd like to take a break from the never-ending chores."

"Are we allowed to do that?" She asked in all seriousness.

*Joseph's smile was gentle.*
"I think we can manage something, if you'd like to." *He didn't want to make any comments about last requests or such. She wasn't just her imminent death, she was a person and deserved all the love and happiness he could offer her. She would have a normal life for as long as he could give it to her.*
"Perhaps take in lunch at a quaint pub or such? It might be nice to have a change of scenery for an afternoon."
*He shrugged slightly, looking quite as if he was planning to go now either way.* "If you wanted to join me." *He offered genially.*

Anna brightened and stood up slowly, pressing on her knee's "I would" she rubbed her tongue against the top of her mouth and opened it up and closed it a couple times "D-dry mouth" she smiled and set the set her sheers in her basket.
"When will we go?"

*Joseph nodded, understanding.*
"Well, then we should get you something to drink, perhaps a few vittles and a shawl. That should be plenty to start the way, no?"
*He smiled gently, his eyes tender.*

*Joseph's smile was strengthened as he led her back to the main building to fetch a few supplies.*

***LATER***
*Joseph hurried in with Anna in his arms, the other priests quickly recovering from surprise to help him with doors as he made his way back to her room and set her gently on the simple bed.*
"There, Anna." *He whispered, turning to fill a basin and moisten a cloth for her forehead.*

In the time it took to get from the river to the seminary, Anna's condition had worsened. She was sweating heavily and her eyes were gaunt and reddening. Her swallowing was pretty much constant as was her cough.
She felt something trickling on the side of her face as she coughed again, a spray of blood coming from her mouth like a fountain. She knew she was crying but was too weak to even care.
"Water."
