She nodded sadly "I finally received your letter" she fiddled with the braiding on her headscarf "I was furious with Wild, I became terribly angry and, and I told her to leave, she," Anna bit her lip and took a deep breath "left you a note."
She slowly retrieved the note from her pocket and handed it to him "I couldn't stay there alone any longer, not with the way the people looked at me, as if they were waiting for me to die. They never talked to me, to them, it seemed, I had all ready passed."

*Joseph sighed softly, taking the note and tucking it into his robe.*
"I...am sorry. For leaving you. But things...I couldn't...they were too much there. Too loud. Here..."
*He glanced about the walls.*
"There is a peace here that does not exist in Paris."

"Do not be sorry" she replied "you had to leave, there is nothing more to explain. I came here because I could not be in Paris any longer, I could not stay in that church and the only place I knew to go would be the one place you would be at."
She nodded her head gently, placing her hands in front of her.

*Genuine peace read in his eyes.*
"I am glad."
*There was nothing else to say. She calmed him. And...he would miss her.*
"Are you hungry?" *He asked gently.*

"Yes" she exhaled with a smirk "it was a long journey and I'm feeling rather weak."

*Joseph nodded quickly and turned down the small bed.*
"Just rest, and I will bring you something."
*He smiled sweetly and started for the door.*

Anna sat down slowly "Father-"

*Joseph turned back, eager to help if he could.*
"Yes, Anna?"

"Thank god for men like you."

*Joseph was held there for a moment, face softened in true gratitude at the compliment. Finally he nodded.*
"I'll return shortly." *He smiled and ducked out into the hall.*

Anna sighed deeply and put away the clothing that she had brought.
Five grey and brown dresses that she had made, two pairs of shoes and two head wraps.
She sat down at the tiny desk in the corner and placed a large stack of paper and a quill along with three bottles of ink.
She looked at it and smiled, she would write her life, if she did not finish it, that was all right with her, if she did that too was all right. Either way she would write it, and someone, somewhere would read it.
She sat down at the chair and awaited the fathers return.

*Joseph came back as quickly as he could manage, carrying a simple plate of bread and cheese and some fresh water. He smiled gently as he reentered.*
"I'm sorry. It's all I could find. But...there will be meat at supper."
*He set them down carefully, mindful of her papers.*

"No, it's fine father, thank you" she took a small piece of bread and a slice of cheese and ate it.
"It's delicious."

*Father Joseph couldn't help but smile at her humble appreciation of things. Even with things as bad as they were, as meager, she was still so sweet. He understood why God would call her soon. To enjoy the pleasure of her company and lovely smile.*
"You are too kind to say so. It is modest, but I'm afraid that's what we have here."
*He sat down quietly to let her eat. He just didn't want to leave her alone just yet. Or...at all.*

Anna took another piece and than a sip of water, it felt good on her sore throat and sighed as it washed down slowly.
"I'm afraid it is more than I had been eating" she smiled shyly.
