"Jason... what happened?" Javert got to his feet slowly, still adjusting to his own form.
"Please... tell me I haven't injured you." He wouldn't be able to live with himself if he had.
He slowly made his way to the bars, attempting to see whether the other man was okay.

"You begged me for treats and scratches. You found him" he jerked his thumb to the body laying near the upstairs door, "must less agreeable. And now I have a body to explain."
He stabbed at the paper with his quill in finality, blotted it and folded it neatly in half, tucking it into an envelope and writing the name of the recipient on it's smooth surface.
"For God's sake, get dressed and let yourself out--go home."

The harsh words hurt Javert more than he'd like to admit and he winced visibly.
Still, practical as ever, he did begin to dress himself.
"We can sort this out, Jason... no need for anything drastic."
The inspector felt like a fool. He should have known this was a terrible idea... and all that just to make the other man believe him.

"How would you suggest we 'sort this out', Javert? Which of us should turn himself in, when you had no control over your actions and I foolishly backed him right into your jaws?"

"We take him to the morgue." Javert's voice sounded hollow as he knelt down and picked up the keys.
"We're in Paris... people die every day. A lot of them."

Jason stared at the older man in horror.
"Are you suggesting, Inspector, that we cover this up?"
It wasn't as if he hadn't covered up crimes before, for Justin, for Ciaran--but murder?

Javert winced once more, more violently this time. The very idea... but...
"I am merely saying that we have a man who has died from injuries that appear to be inflicted by an animal. Therefore it is our duty to take him to the morgue. Whether his death is going to be subject to investigation is not for us to decide."

"You can't be seriously considering this--you of all people!" and then "You've done this before..."
The idea was horrific--not so much that Javert, as a wolf, had killed, but that as a man he had covered it up. It was...so wrong.
"How many?"

"Never!" Javert snapped.
That Jason could even think such a thing... Javert wasn't easily hurt, but he was now.
He'd always obeyed The Law... but now there were measures to be taken. He could not allow Jason to be hurt because of his own failure.

"You've never attacked another human being, as a wolf?"
If that were really so, then why had Javert thought himself so dangerous? He tucked the envelope containing his resignation and explaination into his coat pocket.
"They'll want to know why we were both here."

"I... I'm not sure. Like I said, I never remember anything."
Javert ran his hand over his face. This was terrible...
"At this time of day, however... I doubt they'll be asking any questions other than what time it is." This was something the inspector disapproved of deeply, but he had to admit... this time it might work in their favor.

"I can't help with the body. Moving it, I mean."
He leaned on his cudgel.
"Take it to the coron and then go home--to my home, if you please. I'll have someone to clean this up." Lambert came to mind. Eager to please and not likely to run to the administration. God, why was he doing this? Because he couldn't stand the thought of landing Javert in prison or worse.
He would take responsibility for the "accident" and resign.

"All right, then." Javert nodded.
"I'll meet you at your place."
With that he let himself out of the cell and moved to lift the bloody corpse. They had to solve this together... and they would.
