The wolf growled and let out a short demanding bark.
More of the scratchy stuff! I was really enjoying the scratchy stuff!
How dare the limpy thing suddenly withdraw from the scratching?!

"Oh settle down!"
he growled over his shoulder and left the cell room and returned a few minutes later (cursing) laden down with a couple of blankets, a pie tin full of water and the sack of muffins he'd taken off of Lambert's desk upstairs.
He shoved the blankets through the bars, slid the tin under the door and put the muffins in his teeth while he fumbled with his key to the cell, opening it just enough to slide through and snapping it closed again quickly behind himself.
"There now, have some water," Jason muttered as he made his way to the bunk to sit, setting the muffins down beside him and using the end of his crutch to pull the blankets over, unfolding and piling them up next to him on the thin straw matress.
"I can't get down onto the floor, so you'll have to come up here if you want muffins and strokes." he chuckled and patted the little nest of scratchy thin blankets.

The wolf paced behind the bars of the cell as he was left alone, growling softly.
It wasn't fair! There should be scratchy stuff going on... and perhaps some food... and...
Oh, there he was!
The wolf felt his tail begin to wag slightly as Jason approached, but quickly put an end to that. Oh no, it wouldn't be that easy! No, sir! He was a wolf, an awesome predator! The limpy thing couldn't just leave him and then expect it all to be alright when he finally decided to...
Was that food?
The wolf's tongue flicked out and he sniffed the air again.
Yes, that was definitely food... well, he could be alright with being temporarily abandoned if food was involved.
Ooh... and water too! The wolf hurried to drink something but looked up when Jason spoke again.
Was that... a comfy place?
The wolf happily jumped into the nest that had been made for him.
Ooh, yes... comfy.

Jason smirked and sat back against the wall, the muffin sack on his lap. He took one out and peeled away the wax paper.
"Lambert would be thrilled to know you're eating his muffins..." he muttered good humoredly and set the pastry down where the wolf could get at it, then pulled one out for himself.

On pure instinct the wolf pulled up his upper lip, exposing his teeth, and snarled at the mention of Lambert.
He might not be certain what a 'Lambert' was, one thing came through extremely clear in the wolf's brain.
DO. NOT. WANT.
The muffin, however, he'd take.

Jason did his best not to draw back with the growl, not sure what caused it. He decided to let the wolf eat his muffin before he started in on his own, and of course nibbled more civilly at the treat.
He idly reached a hand out and stroked the wolf's birstly back fur.

The petting made the wolf calm down again, though new objectives had just arrived in his brain.
1. Find out what a 'Lambert' is. 2. Find a 'Lambert'. 3. Tear that 'Lambert' into very little pieces indeed.

"Good boy." he muttered and pulled out another muffin for the wolf, then set the bag on the floor and finished his own pastry before returning both hands to Javert's fur with a bit of a sigh.
"I'm sure you don't just go around killing people. You're good enough in here anyway. Not exactly a monster, just a plain old wolf...I'd let you run if I could."

The wolf happily ate his muffin.
A nice nest, food, scratches... almost perfect.
If only he could... oh, hey, did Limpy just say something about running?
The wolf looked up at Jason, clearly hopeful, wagging his tail slightly and whining softly.

Jason smiled sympathetically and stroked the beast's head.
"Sorry, dear. Perhaps next month we'll take a trip into the country and you can run all you like there, but I'm afraid for now you're only stuck in here with me."

Various emotions appeared in the wolf's yellow eyes, indicating these thoughts:
Wait... so... no running?
This does not please me.
Still, you bring pleasant scratching and food, so I shall forgive you.

He unwrapped the last muffin and broke it in half, holding the larger chunk out for the animal to take from his palm, reaching around with his other hand to pat the wolf's side and rub his belly under his ribs.
"Good old wolf."

The wolf happily ate his piece of muffin when...
Oh God... oh my sweet God...
The animal promptly rolled over onto his back.
Yes! Yes!
RUB MAH BELLEH!

Jason rolled his eyes a bit, still smirking, and obliged.
"You're that way in human form too."

The wolf's tongue lolled out a little.
Heaven... this must be heaven...
His human form would have argued that he wasn't religious... the wolf on the other hand didn't give a damn.
