Jason nibbled a bit himself and tossed another piece through the bars, leaning foreward in his chair a bit to study the creature. He supposed it was handsome as far as wolves went, better fed than most wolves anyway. And thick-furred rather than mangy.
"See now, this won't be so hard. We just have to lock you away at the full moon."

The wolf caught the piece of meat once more and devoured it before he began pacing along the bars.
Gotta get out, gotta get out... want to run... want to hunt...
He still wasn't sure what to do about the limpy thing feeding him, but he knew one thing...
The wolf did not enjoy being trapped!

Jason tossed the last of the meat into the cell and watched the wolf devour it, then sat back on his chair, arching his back to stretch before pulling the whole assembly forward and holding his palm out flat before the bars.
"Don't recognize me at all then?"

((Looking for a bit or not? )) The wolf pushed his nose through the bars, sniffing the air and finally Jason's hand. There was the certain feeling of this thing being food, but also something vaguely familiar he probably shouldn't eat... and the possibility of this being the cause of his being trapped that should therefore be torn to bits.

((That's up to you))
He let the wolf sniff at him for a few moments before pushing his hand all the way through the bars and touching the creature's fluffy cheek.
"This is rediculous..." he sighed a bit "when do you change back?"

This is ridiculous... I'll just bite it and see how it reacts.
That thought firmly in mind, the wolf snapped at Jason's arm. It wasn't really aggressive yet, more a kind of test.
Food would behave like food and not-food wouldn't behave like food.
It was research in a wolf kind of way.

Jason had been expecting a bite, or at least a snap and had already determined not to jerk away--just in case there was anything of Javert left in the beast, he didn't want to cause him hurt in anyway, didn't want Javert to think he was afraid of him in the least.
Besides, his arm was covered in the heavy wool of his uniform, and the snap didn't hurt anyway.
"Finished with that, then?"

Okay... so it wasn't food.
Now, what the heck was it?
The wolf made a little indeterminate noise and looked at Jason with great curiosity. He was sure the limpy thing had potential, he just didn't know what he was supposed to do with it.

"Good." he harumphed and curled his hand around the beast's ear, scratching gently.
"Not sure what to make of me, eh? I suppose I'm your mate--don't get any ideas about that though."

Oooh... it was doing a scratchy thing!
The wolf liked the scratchy thing!
He made a genuine effort to get closer so he could get more of the pleasant scratchy thing, making rather content little noises.

Jason couldn't help a little chuckle and scooted his chair closer to the bars so that he was right up against them.
"I'd come in with you, but I'm afraid you'd try to get out soon as I opened the door..." he sighed and continued the petting.

Well, duh...
But for now, the scratchy thing was nice enough for the wolf to stick around. At least for the time being. He wasn't some sort of pansy pet after all, he was a big bad wolf!
Well, he looked the part anyway, but he'd already become rather fond of the limpy thing and the scratchy stuff made him relax and was quite nice...
Apparently the wolf and Javert weren't that different after all.

The policer stuck both his arms through the bars to afford the wolf the greatest scratching area he could, smiling a bit, warm and open as he could not do with any person, the corners of his eyes wrinkled up and he vaguely wished to get a dog.
"A bit grey around the muzzle, old man." he teased, though he was sure the wolf couldn't understand him.

The wolf made a rumbling noise and it might or might not have been a trick of the light that his eyes appeared to flick to Jason's sideburns.
He moved a bit left and right, attempting to make the limpy thing do the scratchy stuff on all the right spots.
Ooh yes... there we go...

He took his hands back, when his arms got tired and stood to stretch his back, grabbing up his crutch.
"More to eat, beast? Perhaps I should bring you some water...and a blanket. Wolves do nest, I hear."
