She nodded.
"I've never really liked change," she muttered as she brought her cocktail towards her lips but was rather absorbed and seemingly forgot to take a sip.

George leaned on his elbow with a cheeky grin "Are you going to drink it, or do you plan on letting it just evaporate?"

His words brought her back from her reverie. She smiled as an embarrassed flush coloured her cheeks.
"I'm sorry," she said, setting down her glass. "To be frank, I haven't done this in a while..."

George laughed and sat straight up "Well for being out of practice you're quite good at it," he held out his hand "how about a dance? Always loosens me up."

Betty grinned.
"I'd like that."
She took his hand and made her way to the dance floor. A slow jazzy song was playing and the other couples were slow dancing as they held each other close. Betty tried her best to suppress the feeling of awkwardness that began to nag at her.

George luckily was an amazing dancer, he'd picked up a lot from the choreographers that he'd worked with. He smiled widely as they began to dance, keeping his distance as to not come on as strong as he all ready had.
"So tell me Betty, what do you do for fun?"

They way he took the lead seemed to relax her a bit. After a few moments, she stopped thinking about many other things.
"Mm..." she said, taking a moment to think about her answer. "I like to ride. I used to live about half an hour away from a stable. I would go there when I had the time."
She rather missed that place.

"The only horses I've seen are the one's the police ride around back in Brooklyn" he laughed "and the massive amounts here. I mean honestly, how many cars have you seen?"

"Have you--"
She stopped herself. Well, the police in New York still rode horses but he was right: she hadn't seen a single car since she got there. He was going to think she was absolutely bonkers but... he seemed like he felt something was strange as well. It had been bugging her for a while and she just had to get it out.
"Do you ever feel like you've missed something?" she asked, taking a quick look around the place. "When I got here a few weeks ago, it was 1965. Now, people eye me strangely when I take a walk in a knee-length skirt."

He continued to dance with her, spinning her slowly "My dear when I got here in was 1933" his eyes grew dark, thoughtful. He wasn't the kind of man to take to explode when he didn't understand something.
But what if what this girl was saying was true, well. He's not only missed 30 years, but had been transported back a 10 or so years before he was born.
((He was born in 1898))

"But that's impossible. I was born in 1932," she said, feeling like she was in an episode of the Twilight Zone.

((I honestly love these conversations, they're so old verse.))
He stopped dancing, and took her by the arm off of the dance floor, still talking "I was born in 1898 and we're very close to the same age from what I can tell" he stopped near the bar. "I don't mean to seem to presumptuous, but you don't happen to have ever heard of me, last name happens to be Gershwin if that helps-"

((Oh, I know. Ah, nostalgia...))
Betty never gaped but the expression on her face was very close to one.
"You're kidding me..." she said, breathlessly. "You mean you're George Gershwin-- Porgy and Bess, Rhapsody in Blue, American in Paris?"
She was starting to feel slightly lightheaded and was looking rather pale.

"Well the middle one I recognize, and- I'm writing a play called... An American.. in... oh my god" he sat down.
"Something weird is going on here" he looked up to see her grow paler "are you going to be all right sugar?"

She nodded and took a seat.
"Kay.... Is Kay here?" she blurted out then realized what she was asking. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pry. It's just that I learned about you in a music history course back at Bryn Mawr."
