*Enjolras sat in his library, reading a paper while he waited for their feted new neighbor to arrive to dinner. After pinning in her diamond earbobs, Adrienne made her way downstairs. She shook her head affectionately upon catching sight of her father.*
"Papa, you really must learn to keep your cravat straight..."
*She fixed it and he smiled up at her. Inside, she was immensely displeased. She knew who the neighbor was. And she didn't like it. So to make herself feel better, she'd chosen a dress in dark-blue silk with a particularly plunging neckline and no sleeves. A relatively simple diamond choker highlighted the expanse of creamy neck, collarbone, and cleavage, and diamond earbobs twinkled from under upswept and styled dark dresses.*
*If she was having dinner with him, damned if she wouldn't look good.*

*The butler opened the door and escorted Chuck to where Enjolras and his daughter waited. Enjolras stood immediately to shake his hand.*
"Wonderful to finally meet you; I'm Gustave-Vincent d'Enjolras, and this is my daughter, Adrienne."
*With that, Adrienne rose, having decided she'd pretend they'd never met. She smiled warmly.*
"Lovely to meet you, Monsieur."

*Okay, Chuck totally knew he was going to see her and was determined to make the best of the situation but dammit! The jewels, the dress, the skin. It was obvious that she knew he was coming.
With a stoic yet charming expression, Chuck took her hand and kissed it lightly.*
"Enchanté, Mademoiselle," *he said politely but shortly.*
*He turned from her quickly and held out his hand for the Vicomte.*
"It's very nice to meet you, sir. Thank you for inviting me over tonight."

*The butler moved them all into the drawing room (receiving Chuck in the library had been a fluke of timing) and Enjolras asked,*
"So you're American?"

*Chuck had handed the butler the wine a followed into the room. He remained standing until she sat down. No matter how annoying (yet hot) she was, he couldn't abandon his manners.*
"I am indeed. Born and raised in New York."

"And how did you come to be in Paris?" *It was Adrienne this time, tilting her head inquiringly.*
*Enjolras was pleased. Chuck had manners, something so many society boys abandoned.*

*Chuck looked at her and barely contained a "I swear I'm going to kill you" look.*
"My... father thought it would be wise for me to live in Europe for a while for training. I'll be inheriting his business after he steps down and he'd like me to be aware of different cultures and such," *he lied and lied well.*

*Enjolras nodded.*
"France.... she certainly is unique." *Of course this was Enjolras, and when Enjolras talked about France he got a funny little warmth to his voice.* "You won't be making a Grand Tour, then?"

*Chuck grinned.*
"It's been about a month and I already am... well acquainted with the city," *he said, not meaning sightseeing but making sure it sounded that way.*
*His eyes unintentionally adverted to Adrienne.*
Shit.

*While a straight back was simply good manners, it didn't hurt that it highlighted the rising and falling as she breathed.*
"Have you any connections in the city? It would seem we haven't seen you in our circles." *Adrienne said. Indeed, someone of his standing was expected at certain parties and balls, so clearly nobody of note in Paris society knew of him.*
*She had to try not to look too pleased with herself.*

"Well, I've been quite busy with settling down to really get to know the circles. But I'm intent on getting to that quite soon," *he said with complete civility. Something he wasn't entirely feeling at the moment but if growing up in high society taught him anything, it was to suck it up.*

"I'm sure Adrienne would be happy to show you around some of the more reputable parlors, introduce to the right people. I myself don't go out in society much any longer."
*Well that was a curveball. Adrienne blinked at her father, then looked at Chuck. It was clear that hadn't been part of any plan.*

*He looked at her and smiled a smile that was composed of triumph and the joy the infinite possibilities the proposed opportunity could bring.*
"I'd be honored," *he said to the Vicomte, without taking his eyes off the girl.*

*She smiled brightly. A little too brightly.*
"Well of course, I'd be delighted. I do need an escort to Lady de Cherbourg's ball next week."
*She'd been planning on taking Alexei. Not so much.*
