*The weather that night was vicious to say the least. Winds blew relentlessly and lightning flashed, coloring the congested skies with its shocking, slivery branches.
Lois, in her silk night robe, stood alone on the balcony, trying her best to light her cigarette. Once lit, she took a long drag and let the smoke out slowly...*

In the flash of lightning, the dark silhouette of a figure to her right was made visible. On its face, a horrifying leer. And in its gloved hand, a gleaming knife.
"Hello there, Lois," it hissed.

*Lois let out an impossibly loud scream as she saw the Joker, but it was all drowned out by the cacophonous rumbling of thunder.*

"Happy to see me? Didn't miss me, did ya?" the figure asked, its grin widening as it advanced ever so gradually towards Lois. The light cast from within the mansion flickered across the scars on its face.

*Lois backed up slowly, as if any quick movement would provoke the mad man in front of her. When the heels of her feet hit the concrete of the balcony railing, she almost cried out.
She was trapped and at his mercy.*

A flash of lightning tore through the sky with its brilliance, illuminating the Joker's entire countenance. If at all possible, his smile grew wider at the scene laid out before him.
"Lois, Lois, Lois," he murmured, brandishing his knife.

*Terrified, Lois stood there, her mind blank and her limbs numb. Then, it was as if something clicked. You don't grow up as an Army Brat and learn nothing from your old man.
In a display of desperate audacity, Lois drove her foot into his stomach then manged to push him away, buying just enough time to tear through the french windows and run into her room.*

The Joker doubled over in pain, hand over his stomach, but hastily straightened up. He strode after Lois, his smile now an ominous frown.
"A little fight in you... I like that," he said, licking his lips.

*Lois ran to all the doors, grabbed the handles and tried to turn them desperately.
None of then budged.
Finding herself trapped again, Lois backed up against her desk.*
"What do you want?" *she demanded in a shakey voice, desperately searching her desk for anything that she could use to defend herself.*

"What do I want?" he repeated disdainfully, cocking his head to one side. "I want... to see you scream for your life. I want to see the fear and horror in your eyes as I tear this knife through your face. I want to see your smile.
"It's not too much to demand, is it, Lois?"

*Lois was now visibly shaking. Her clumsy fingers fumbled over various objects on her desk, none of which would be useful.*
"I wrote the article," *she spat as if her words were some charm that would help keep him away.*
"If anything happens to me, people know to publish it. "

"All the more reason to kill you!" he laughed. "Believe me, you'll be dead before they know it. Tell me, Lois, should I burn the article and scatter its ashes over your corpse, or should I shred it into pieces and shove those pieces down your throat?"

*Lois' hands came across something cubed, hard and sleek. She gasped it tightly.*
"You can take it and shove it, freak--"
*Using what she learned during her softball days, Lois threw her paperweight at him with all she had.*

The Joker dodged the oncoming paperweight effortlessly.
"I hope you didn't think that was all it took to stop me!" he chortled. "And guess what? Now you've made me mad. Believe me... you don't want to see me mad." He stormed towards Lois, then, mercilessly seizing her by the neck, and thrust her violently against a nearby bookcase.

*Lois screamed in pain as she crashed into the shelves.
She struggled, writhed and tried to pry his hands off her neck. But her thin fingers were ineffective against his vice-like grip.*
"He'll find you," *she said, barely able to get the words out. It was obvious to whom she was referring when she said "He."*
