He hazarded a smile.
"Oh, I'm sure there are still aspects of Lois Lane I don't know yet."

*Eyes still closed, Lois smiled briefly.*
"Same here..." *she breathed, her tone undecipherably both sad and hopeful at the same time.*

After only a moment of hesitation, he kissed the top of her head.
"Maybe I know one more person I could tell things to..." He muttered.

*Lois carefully reached up and placed a steady hand on his cheek. Gently, she brought his face down to hers and pressed her cold cheek against his.
Her hand lightly lingered on his face for a long while...*

They sat there that way for a while, Bruce holding her and rocking her in his arms.
After a while, he realized that Lois had fallen asleep in his arms. Carefully, he stood up, carrying her. Pausing to wrap Lois in blankets to warm her and dry her off, he carried her out into her room and gently set her down on the bed.
Once she was settled, he left to his own room to change into something warm and dry before returning to keep watch.
And he would, falling asleep in his chair while on guard duty.

Lois' sleep wasn't entirely dreamless.
Her dad's serious eyes stares right into her's as they stand outside the Metropolis University dorm complex.
"Be careful, sweetheart."
She laughs dismissively. "I think I can defend myself against a few drunk frat boys. You taught me well, dad."
"I'm not talking about college, Lois. I mean the rest of the world. There are some scary things out there."
"You're talking to me as if I'm going off to war. I'll be fine," she assures him with an easy smile, trying to cover up the slightly uncomfortable feeling at the conversation they're having.
He shakes his head. "Sometimes, life and war... they're the same thing."
*Lois woke up with a quiet gasp, the normal grogginess gone. The first thing she saw was a sleeping Bruce on a chair nearby. She couldn't help but smile a little.*

Bruce stirred a bit, mumbling something that sounded like "Mom".

*Her smile quickly disappeared. Both her parents were still alive. She couldn't imagine...*
*Hesitantly, Lois got up and walked towards him. She put her hand on his arm and gently shook him.*
"Bruce..."

Muttering, he reached out, and upon feeling Lois' hand opened his eyes.
"What..."
He blinked at Lois a moment before awareness came flooding back.
"Hello." He said with a lopsided grin.

*Lois glanced over at his hand then back at him.*
"Hey," *she said with an uncertain yet bright smile.* "I... thought I'd better wake you."

"That's a good idea," he sat up, feeling a few good aches from sleeping in a chair.
"Urgh, I should have taken the loveseat. More room."

"You're doing it again," *she said shortly, sounding more disappointed than anything else.*

He froze where he was.
"What do you mean?"

"Deflecting," *she said quietly.*
*Lois sighed shook her head, realizing how stupid she sounded.*
"Nevermind. Forget it."

He regarded her quietly for a moment, thoughtful.
"I...would rather not discuss it. Not so early. That's all."
