*María looked at him sadly.*
"I can understand your frustration. I don't know why you are stuck here either. Just as little as you do. You have every right to be angry, or whatever other feelings you have. Go mad, have at me. But I was not the one that brought you here. Neither have I done anything to force you to stay here."

"But what if you did?" *Will snapped without thinking. The thought was not beyond him.*
"Not that you meant to, but what if you're...affliction is what brought me here? What binds me to this place?"
*He was desperate and it was quite apparent.*

*María looked at him, clearly shocked by his accusation.*
"Will! How can you say things like that? My... affliction? I don't even know what that means! Why would I want to bind you to this place? Before you showed up in my bedroom I didn't even know you!"

*Will was sobered a bit by the look on her face. He backed away, like a child scorned.*
"I...I'm sorry. I didn't..." *He sighed heavily, unable to look at her.* "But you are afflicted. Ghosts are drawn to you. Why is it so hard to believe that you may be the reason I am here?"

*María sighed, and looked down.*
"I'm sorry too, Will. It is true I am afflicted. I have always been. I don't even know why. I sure as hell didn't ask for it. And if I am the reason you are here, I wish I could find a way to release you. I just don't know how. I don't have any special powers."
*She had tears in her eyes.*

*Ah, the crying woman. There was no greater bane to a man. Especially one like Will. He started forward without thinking.*
"I didn't mean...I don't mean to be harsh of it. I just know that there are some things that cannot be escaped." *He pursed his lips, watching her.*
"I...I just don't know what to do." *He answered meekly.*

*María looked up at him, still with tearfilled eyes. She was struggling very hard to hold back her tears. Still her lips were trembling, and there was something vulnerable in her eyes.*
"I know that, Will. I didn't mean to be harsh either. I only wanted to help. But this is new to me too, and I don't know what to do either. I have never tried to bring a ghost back to life before."

*Will straightened, his life coming back to him, crashing all about him.*
"To do so goes against the work of God." *She couldn't. She shouldn't.*

*María sighed and looked up at him again.*
"I know that, Will. But it pains me to see you suffer. I want so much to do something for you."

*Will's eyes darkened.*
"And you think the suffering of one unworthy soul is enough to go against God?" *He questioned gently, not sure he wanted the answer.*

*María looked up at him.*
"Will. I am merely a slip of a girl. How can you think I have the power to do anything that can break the great plans of God?"

*Will lifted his hands defensively, as if the Almighty might smite him then and there.*
"I never said break. I just said...well...what you're proposing...according to every Christian faith...."
*He sighed.*
"Only Christ can restore the dead."

*María smiled and looked sadly up at him.*
"I have many connections, my dear Will. But even though I am a devoted Catholic, I doubt Christ would hear me out if I prayed for you to be restored."
*She lowered her eyes.*
"And I don't know how to help you."

*Will's eyes widened. What was going on?*
"Milady...though I might not follow your faith, I cannot believe that any devote Catholic, nay any devote Christian, would doubt that Christ would hear their prayers. They might not be answered, but that is the nature of God's will and we should not question it."

*María looked up at Will with sadness written all over her face.*
"I know, Will. But sometimes... when I stay up all night and pray, out of fear for Astaroth, and he still comes to possess me.... When I get tortured by his evil doings without any signs that anyone hear my cries for help.... then I start believing that nobody is listening to my prayers at all."
*She sighed heavily.*
"Sometimes everything seems so... hopeless."
