"Sir, I request you leave this house." *Raoul said suddenly. A little anticlimactically, and maybe a little past due. But he said it all the same*

*Jean-François frowned at the boy.*
"And I would request an answer from my wife. I hardly think that's too much to ask."

*Johanna nodded slowly*
"Not at first. It wasn't your fault- you were good to me."

*Jean-François's eyes were cold for a moment, but softened slightly. He turned back quickly to the boy.*
"And you? You wish to see to her? Sate her? Care for her?"

"That and more." *He said without a moment's hesitation. He looked a little bristly at Morangias's continued presence.*

*Jean-François arched a disdainful brow.*
"And when she comes to you, begging for something...less familiar...harder..."
*He looked over the vicomte, sizing him up.*
"...hungrier....you will give her whatever it is she asks for?"

"I don't believe it is your place to ask." *He responded, and his eyes showed a little-seen strength in the younger man.*

"As her husband, I think it is."
*He shifted his weight slightly.*
"You think you've already won, that she's yours for the having. But while you might take her to your bed, you'll have a hard time giving her a proper name without my consent."
*His lips tightened.*
"I am not as cruel as you would think me, and I can be quite reasonable. But I believe it is only fitting that I should take care in your investment, that you do not bore of her before the year is out."

*Johanna was by now unable to look either man in the eye*

"I am not so fickle." *He said, restraining himself from doing something stupid.* "Nor so cowardly."

*Jean-François's eyes narrowed in doubt, but if Johanna was truly so miserable and this sudden new fellow moved her, who was he to force her to stay. Force was never part of taming an animal, they must be trained and he would have no chance of it while she was in another's bed. So be it. He spoke plainly.*
"And you will give anything to be with her?"

"Anything within my power."

*He nodded in acknowledgment.*
"Half a million francs then."
*Jean-François looked over Johannna.*
"That is a reasonable price, no?"

*Raoul gaped a little. It wasn't that he didn't have the money--having a family as old as his and investments as lucrative as the ones they'd made over the years were sufficient on that front--it was that he found the whole idea of paying for her (or any person, for that matter) so repulsive that he was speechless.*

*He arched a brow.*
"Not enough? I know that she is truly exquisite. A pearl among the sea of women here. But I think that it is reasonable, given that you are removing any chance I might have had to continue my family line with her. Do you not think that she is worth such a modest sum?"
