*Johanna took a sip. Suddenly, the shock of everything that had happened seemed to collapse on her, and she started to speak without thinking.*
"I need to tell you something- I told you I'm a runaway, and I'll be a divorcee, and I was adopted from a criminal to begin with. I'm falling in love with you, and if I'm not the type of girl you'd like to associate with, then I should leave because I don't think I can stop myself."
Wait...did I just say all that out loud?

*He'd been sipping his brandy when she'd said it and he sputtered, managing not to spit any out, but some came out his nose, leaving a curious burning sensation. He held his hand to the area, and thankfully it was only a drop or so.*
"I... would rather you stayed." *He finally said softly, after putting his hand down and looking her in the eye for a long moment.*

(( )) "Oh, thank you so much!" *Johanna stood, finally smiling*

*Then Louise came back in before Raoul could say a word.*
"Mam'selle's room is ready." *She said.* "If you'll follow me..."

*Johanna followed Louise out of the room*

*Jean-François rapped the heavy knocker, standing on the steps of the mansion. He was dressed smartly, his pistol tucked away discretely beneath his lush long coat. He'd come for conversation, but the matter would be dealt with, one way or another.*

*Louise, the housekeeper, opened the door.*
"Good afternoon, Monsieur."
*Monsieur le Vicomte wasn't expecting visitors, and he hardly ever got anyone unexpected...*

*Jean-François looked rather disdainful at the thought of being put off.*
"If you master has half a mind, he is expecting me."

*She nodded, opening the door further.*
"If you'll wait in the drawing room, he'll be down in just a moment."
*She showed the man to the drawing room and went to fetch Raoul. It was the footman's day off so she functioned as both butler and housekeeper.*
*When Raoul entered, he managed not to show any outward signs of panic. He nodded to de Morangias.*
"Good afternoon."

*Jean-François nodded in turn, going through the civil dance that was required of such things.*
"I believe you have something that is mine."
*His voice was calm, the statement simple.*

"Indeed, I have something, but I doubt it's going to be yours for much longer." *He responded evenly.*

*Jean-François licked his teeth, his lips tightly shut.*
"And...why did you not seek a more...polite manner of removing her from my household? Stealing is surely still looked down upon, no?"

"I did not steal her as a maid steals silverware, as you are trying to imply. I facilitated an entirely willing escape."

*Jean-François arched a brow.*
"And how exactly did you do that, sir? Johanna was not one to leave the house."
*Of course, it wasn't like she had much choice in the matter, but still. It was curious.*

"I was acquainted with her before the marriage." *Was all he said.* "And one doesn't need to leave a house in order to plan to do so, does one?"
