"Hey now." *Death answered, a bit on the defensive.*
"You weren't mine to collect last time. Outsourced. Guess it shows that if you want something done right you gotta..."
*He had pulled out his List, looking it over to check off his name. But there was a problem.*
"Huh."
*His eye sockets fell on Julian.*
"How the hell did you manage to kill someone that's not on the List?"
*Julian just shrugged.*
"Mother's poison, nothing complex."
*Death frowned.*
"Hmm...well...great."
*He offered a skeletal hand to the dead man's corpse.*
"All right, let's get you out of there until we can sort this through..."

Grantaire believed he took the hand pulled himself up with it, but wasn't terribly surprised to see his body still laying on the bed behind him. He sniffed and blinked at Death.
"Handsome fellow." he muttered. "What d'you mean not on the list--isn't everyone on the list? Can he still see me?" he nodded to Julian, assuming, since the man was...talking to Death and all.
"This isn't right at all..."

*Death nodded but dismissively waved his hand.*
"Eh, don't worry about him. It's kinda what he does. Not his fault though. He..."
*Julian stared at them both, unblinking.*
"He had a difficult birth."
*He released the man and started rolling up the List.*
"And yes and no. Everyone is on the List. The Great List. This is like the Cliffnotes. Or...a to-do List. Just what's on the docket now. Make sense?"

"But I'm not on it..." He frowned. "I don't want to go back again, there's nothing there--and I was dying anyway. Don't I get to see my friends now?"
He pursed his lips--or what and where he felt lips should be and turned to Julian again.
"I don't want anyone to ever find me, M. Julian. That, I mean...my body."

*Death sighed.*
"Yeah, well...sometimes these things get screwed up especially in Paris. We'll see it sorted out. You want to crash at my house until then? Seems better than just wandering around."
*He shrugged.*
"But that's really up to you. Just know it can be...disconcerting. Or at least, that's what I've been told."
*Julian nodded, glancing to the man's body.*
"Of course."

"I don't have any reason to stay here." He smiled a bit, and then was a little offput by the fact that Death didn't have any expressions to read.
"Thank you, Julian. Again." He wondered if he could kiss the man's cheek again, but thought it a bit silly to try.

"It was my pleasure." *Julian answered, looking to Death. "I will tell him...that you have been here, sir."
*Death nodded.*
"Thanks."
*He looked over Grantaire.*
"Now let's see what we can do with you. Ready to travel?"
*He outstretched his hand once more.*

"I suppose."
He reached out wondering why he still had arms and curled his smallish hand around the bony thing the...Death offered.

*Death's fingers curled about his hand and he pulled the spirit close against him, wrapping his robed arm around him.*
"You might want to close your eyes."
*Without further warning, both melted into a pillar of black ooze, sank to the floor and disappeared.*
((I'll post in the Mors Residence.))

***AFTER ERIK'S RETURN***
*Erik seemed to need more rest than he used to. Julian spent much of his time watching him do so, but the spare moments were spent finishing up Grantaire's body. It was on one such occasion that he put the last piece in, a small glowing orb of unknown nature. He fitted it into the open chest carefully, sending energy coursing through the rest of the body.*

The body jolted a bit, spasms through the face and arms, hands flexing jerkily before it stiffened again.
From his borrowed room in Death's house, where he'd been playing chess with himself, Grantaire also spasmed, sending chess pieces flying across the table and onto the floor.

*Julian's brow arched as the body spasmed slightly. Was that supposed to happen? He supposed it was better than no response at all. He waited to see if a pattern developed before he set to making adjustments.*

The start-up seemed a bit slow, gears and springs ground out at first, ratcheted and finally started moving in random ticks and whirrs before gaining some steam, so to speak, and beginning to move fluidly altogether, settling into a predictable rhythm like a heartbeat.

*Julian smiled at his success. But how to test it? He could think of only one way. He unfastened the silver chain around his neck, letting it drop onto his bed as he became incorporeal. He tried to fit his essence inside the body.*

The creature called Julian would find itself hard-pressed to fit into the shell, being that as soon as the rhythm of the thing had settled in, Grantaire had been tugged back into his body. He was there, a bit confused and feeling trapped as he didn't quite know where he was or how to work it.
