He beamed, quite likely not understanding the sense of sorrow for this reason--he had long forgotten what it was like for Erik as a child in the carnivale.
"Will watch Julian in the pretty noise-story, too." He nodded enthusiastically and hopped from foot to foot, giving a weirdly human clicking purr against Julian's chest before unlatching from him.
"Can go now? Out not much much, home soon! F' rest with Erik, Julian."

The creature trilled and wriggled out of Julian's arms, smiling rather brightly, and then turned a quick and excited circle before padding away to explore the human world above ground--at least for a little while.

*Julian only sighed softly as Mortimer waddled away. He found Erik's hand instinctively, lacing their long fingers together.*
