*Something pulled at Erik, something he had felt before but didn't quite understand. It was similar to when he'd "found" Julian at Manderley. Sort of a sense memory of that place.*
Yes, *he said distractedly.* Erik must... there is business... he must go.
*He drifted away mentally, and when he became aware again, he was at Manderley.*
((So this will fit in where he fights with Richard and also where he discovers them together.))

((Sounds good.))
*Julian felt hollow and sadness seeped into him, but he stood and fetched some sketching supplies, setting to work.*

**AFTER FIRST FAUST REHEARSAL**
Erik rushed back to the lair, eager to congratulate both of his proteges. It had been an interesting day so far, all told.

*Julian emerged, skin electric, but not seething as he had been singing the part earlier. Upstairs there were too many distractions. But down here, music was law and God. Here was where he belonged. He sought Erik, eager for his approval.*
"Mother?"

Erik stood, reaching a hand out to Julian.
"You performed most admirably, my love. And, I think, gave El Castro a bit of a shock."
He laughed unkindly at the memory.

*Julian smiled, almost an innocence in his voice.*
"You are...pleased then?"

The ill-dressed, man-shaped creature padded in a few moments later, having headed back down once the music had stopped--after all, he'd been promised apples and fish upon his return.
Mortimer walked more upright than it had before, but still trundled and had a slightly hunched, strange gait. He (for now it was most certainly on the more masculine side, having modeled itself after its favorite people) came in grinning and gave a trill at sight of the pair of them, prepared to turn around again and grant some privacy.

"I am," Erik said warmly, then looked up and smiled upon Mortimer's entrance. The transformation was indeed incredible; while normal society would probably find him quite odd and uncanny, in contrast to the sharkman he had been the last time Erik had seen him it was truly a wonder.
"Don't go, Mortimer," his good-feeling enough of a glow to encompass what was left of his family. "You have succeeded, have you? A fine job."

*Julian turned to the sharkman with a smile.*
"Truly. I had no idea you were up to such an amazing feat." *He stepped closer, arm outstretched as if to touch him.*

"Is good?" He hopped over and nuzzled up against Julian's inviting hand before padding over to Erik and clutching his little frame to the man. His voice had lost its androgynous quality and settled into a smooth tone, on par in richness with his favorite instrument and the hands that curled into Erik's coat were human enough, though missing a pair of fingers, with blunt nails and only a remnant of webbing between them.
He'd even succeeded in producing a human skin tone, though the edges of his hairline showed bluegray speckling, and the eyes that had gone from solid black to solid green were now clear and bright, in the same aqua tone, even if the irises were a bit overlarge. The ink, of course, as well as old scars and holes from the removed piercings were all still present. And there were the teeth.
"Apples? Fish? Care care bought f' Shark, yes? Is good? Very pretty?"

Erik chuckled.
"Is beautiful," he said. "Pretty shark. But not so much a shark anymore, are you, Mortimer? Though I am not certain Paris is quite ready for you, just yet."
He left off examining Mortimer, his fingers gliding over the ink and the blue at his hairline, to retrieve a basket.
"Apples, fish, and chocolate, Mortimer, as Erik promised."

The youth hopped around a bit and tried to stand still and wait patiently--people didn't hop around with excitement. Well, the male people didn't, anyway.
"Care care...not have to speak not-good. Mortimer is not...hm...can understand good-speak good good. Not dumb animal."

Erik blinked.
"I'm sorry, Mortimer. Erik had not realized he was doing that."
With his own verbal tics, Erik was rather prone to unconscious mimicry.
"I have never considered you a dumb animal."

"Is okay." He smiled and reached into the basket to pull out a fresh fish and made a quick mess of it and his face and hands.
"Thank you!"

Erik thought perhaps that Paris was not yet ready for Mortimer's eating habits, but he kept that to himself. Where would the... man... go, anyway?
"You're welcome," he said graciously, suddenly envious of the creature's ability, though the fact that Erik had met Izame as a young child protected him somewhat from Erik's pettier impulses.
"Remarkable."
