*Kirk smiled gently and brushed her cheek.*
"You couldn't have," *he said.* "If this man was determined, he'd have killed you, too. At least you're alive to attempt to redress the wrongs done to your people."

"It is true I was in danger at the time. Most of all because of my connections to the queen, and my knowledge. You see, I have these... visions. I can see things that happens far away. So I know who the murderer is."
*Leetah smiled sadly and looked up at him, blushing when he brushed her cheek.*
"I am just a girl fighting a war she can't win. But I have to do this. I have to be strong for my people. How will they live if I am not here to protect them?"

"I don't think it's a war you can't win," *he said.* "Not if you're on the side of Right. I'll help however I can."

*Leetah smiled warmly and looked up at him.*
"That is very kind of you, Captain Kirk. But you should know that I have many enemies here now. Among them, the new king and queen. It could be dangerous to you to even admit you have met me. And I don't want you to risk your life because of a stranger."

"But you're a very attractive stranger. And it wouldn't be the first time. How about for now, you keep me in the background. And I'll be on call, ready if you can use me."

*Leetah blushed and laughed.*
"Well, thank you. You don't look too bad yourself, if I may say so. But I guess you have heard that a lot already. You should be aware that this could take years. By the time we get anyway, you may have found your ship already. And I imagine it would be hard for us to call on you when you are out in the universe, sailing among the stars."

*Kirk smiled.*
"If I find my ship, I'll find a way for you to contact us. I promise. For now, let's just keep me on reserve, shall we?"

*Leetah smiled warmly back.*
"I thank you for your kind offering to help us, Captain Kirk. We might need it. You see, the humans are not the only threat we have in Lorien these days. We are also being attacked by a demonic people. Do you have any training in fighting devils?"

*Kirk raised both eyebrows.*
"I... don't believe in devils, Leetah."

*Leetah looked up at him and smiled.*
"I didn't either. Until THEY arrived."
*A loud roaring sound could be heard from the other side of the forest. An evil sound that made Leetah shudder for a moment. Then she forced herself to relax, but all her senses were on guard.*

*Kirk tensed, ready for battle even if it didn't come.*
"I didn't mean I don't believe there are things people mistaken for demonic," *Kirk said.* "I meant that there are lots of things in this universe, and if we start ascribing devilish abilities to them we risk losing faith in our own abilities. What is this thing?"

*Leetah listened after unusual sounds, but didn't find anything. She smiled.*
"I believe my spell will hold a little while longer. So we're safe, for now. These creatures have been roaming the earth since the beginning of time. Even before the humans. They were the first enemies of the elves, and the reason we had to learn to fight. They can be summoned if we even speak their names. So we call it...THEM."

"A sound policy," *Kirk agreed.* "But what can you do to fight them?"

*Leetah smiled.*
"How do a shaman fight in a war? With magic. And even though I only practice White Magic, there are White magic that can harm as well as help. I can do a lot, my friend."

"Good," *he said.* "But I mean... is there any way to drive them away for good?"
