*Leetah laughed. She was not as naive as Nessa, and would be harder to conquer.*
"I have no reasons to disapprove the way you choose to live your life, monsieur. You are a complete stranger to me."

*Kirk grinned, but his voice was grave.*
"I would never conceive designs on a complete stranger," *he said.* "You're safe with me. The women I spend time with are, I assure you, quite mutually satisfied."

*Leetah arched her eyebrows, but with a glimpse of humor in her eyes.*
"Oh, you don't have to worry about my safety, monsieur. I have learned to defend myself."
*she replied in a teasing voice. Then she became more serious.*
"So, Monsieur. If I understand correctly, you are a friend of Nessa? Where did she find you?"

"On the steps of the opera house in Paris," *he said easily.* "She needed to find her way home; I helped her."

*Leetah smiled.*
"I appreciate you brought her home safely. Thank you. Nessa is not used to travel alone around in the world. But you, Captain Kirk, must have travelled a lot?"

*Kirk smiled happily.*
"I have. All over the universe."

*Leetah smiled back.*
"All over the universe, you say? That must have been extremely tiresome, and would take an eternity, unless you have a ship that can sail really fast."

*Kirk grinned.*
"It's a starship," *he explained.* "We call it 'warp' speed; it's flying, more than sailing, but the nautical conventions still hold. And it's not tiresome at all. It's fascinating. You get to meet all sorts of people... Have adventures... Save lives."

*Leetah smiled impressed, interested in the technology.*
"A starship? That sounds really interesting. I admit, in Lorien you get to meet all sorts of people too, but here we stay at the same place. But, as a healer, I have saved some lives in my time."
*She looked up at him with her beautiful, shimmering eyes.*
"So, Captain? Where have you anchored your ship? Is it possible to see this wonder?"

*Kirk laughed, though the sound wasn't so merry as it might have been.*
"I'm afraid I'm stranded," *he said.* "Otherwise, I'd love to show you."
*The Enterprise was his true home. His one true love.*
"I'll find it sooner or later, I'm certain--this tends to happen a lot. For now, I'm on my own. And I'm certain that what you do here, in Lorien, is every bit as important as what I do. It's not where, but what and why that matter."

*Leetah nodded. She was a wise woman, and could easily hear the sadness in his voice. She smiled reassuring.*
"I am sorry your ship has disappeared, Captain Kirk. I am sure it will be found when the time is ready, even though I don't get any visions right now."
*She smiled mildly.*
"In the meanwhile, try to forget your sadness, and enjoy yourself. As for me, I can't get any rest before I have found the murderer of my beloved friend Queen Tearbird. The murderer must be brought to justice, and the rightful king must be crowned. I am fulfilling Tearbird's last wish. Which is why I am a refugee in my own homeland. I am leading the restistance against Steerpike and Eleanor."

"Indeed?" *Kirk said, with interest.* "I heard that the current rulers were human, which seems unusual. Do you have proof of this?"

*Leetah turned away from him with pain written all over her face.*
"Proof? I am a shaman, Captain. A healer. And a doctor. All in same person. After my brother found the dead bodies and had collected all clues about the murder, I was the one who examined their dead bodies. This person, Steerpike..... He claimed that he had murdered the king in order to save the queen. But when I examined the bodies, I found that the king had died 30 minutes BEFORE the queen! And my dear friend, Queen Tearbird.... The wounds on her body showed that she was stabbed by a right-handed person. But Orduag was left-handed!"
*She wiped her tears away and looked up at him. Her lips were trembling.*
"Is that evidence good enough for you? Or do you want more?"

"Good enough," *Kirk said.* "For me, anyway. But that isn't the point; if something's to be done, the proof must be incontrovertible and visible to everyone involved."
*He tried to smile.*
"I'm sorry. I get involved no matter where I am. I hope you don't find my interest insulting."

"My brother searched the entire Lorien for evidence. Every single piece of evidence he found, he took care of. It is in safe keeping. You should talk to him. He even found the murder weapon."
*She smiled back, in spite of the pain she felt inside.*
"Getting involved is a token of a caring heart, Captain. I don't find it insulting. Still, Tearbird's death is a very painful memory for me. I still blame myself for not being here when she died. I might have been able to warn her, or to prevent the murder from happening."
