*Leetah looked thoughtful for a moment.*
"It might be.... but that would need involvement of a demon. And a big sacrifice from my side."

*Kirk frowned.*
"What sort of sacrifice?"

*Leetah looked worried, but then tried to shake it off.*
"My life. If I get involved with a demon in order to create a new race of elves, the childbirth may kill me. If anything gets wrong: My people and my country will face damnation."

*Kirk frowned.*
"Are you sure that's necessary? A new race of elves, I mean; it seems like a drastic measure in order to defeat a demon. It seems like... becoming the demon."

"We are not fighting demons, Captain Kirk. Devils. Completely different creatures."
*Leetah smiled warmly.*
"If everything goes as I have calculated, the new race will be stronger and harder fighters, and they will be more resistant against the flames that the devil people are breathing against us. These flames are deadly to humans. Elves can resist them to a certain grade, but if we got some demon blood mixed in... I think I know one demon I can ask...."
*Her eyes were dreamingly.*

"It's up to you, of course," *Kirk said, an edge to his voice.* "But think what a drastic measure that is--you're playing with the future of your people, just to gain an advantage in a fight."

*Leetah woke up from her daydreams and looked back at him. There was a sad look in her eyes, tears glittering in her dark eyelashes.*
"I am not playing, Captain Kirk. The Devil people are planning to take over the Earth. This is not just a fight. It is a war going on. What do you think the world will look like if I allow 30 dinosaur-sized brutes who breathes fire and throw huge rocks around rule the earth? What do you think will happen to the humans? Or the nature?"

"I'm not denying that's a horrifying picture," *Kirk said.* "But in my philosophy, it's best to exhaust other possibilities before you start thinking about altering biology."

*Leetah arched her eyebrows for a moment, looking at him. Then she started laughing.*
"Oh dear! I understand how that must have sounded. I'm sorry. I didn't mean it quite that way. To create a new race would take some years, to give birth to all the necessary individuals. No, I was more thinking about creating one or two children, who will be stronger than the other elves. And believe me. I have exhausted all possibilites there is."

*Kirk nodded.*
"I'll help however I can," *he offered again. He liked to solve things with what he had on hand. It always worked out, didn't it?*

*Leetah smiled warmly.*
"I appreciate that, Captain Kirk. We have some problems right now, trying to avoid civil war until the problem with the devil people have been solved.
My cousin Wild says that there is a way of getting rid of the devil people for good. She knows a potion that will kill them. But to collect the ingredients for this potion, it is necessary to travel into the Land of Shadows. The journey is long and dangerous. Because the devil people have settled down in that land. And we can't get rid of them before we get the ingredients. I am planning to send a small group to fetch these ingredients for us."

*This piqued Kirk's interest.*
"Leetah. May I go on this mission? Listen; I know I'm not an elf, but I'm a strong man. And I've had experience with this kind of thing. I've traveled everywhere. I know I'm not any kind of a captain here, but I can be of use."

*Leetah nodded.*
"My son, Figwit, will be the leader of the expedition. I suggest you come with me to my treehouse, and speak with him yourself. He is the one who will be picking out the group. Personally, I think he will need a man like you in the group."
((To Leetah's treehouse?))

*Kirk nodded. He wasn't sure how a girl as young as Leetah looked had a son who could lead such an expedition, but he'd seen stranger things.*
"Thank you."
*He followed.*

*Leetah noticed the wondering look on Captain Kirk's face and turned to him to explain.*
"I couldn't risk my son's life by letting him grow up here. He grew up somewhere safe, where time runs different than here. As for my age, I'm 18 years old in human years. I think."
