*Genghis smiled slightly and lowered his eyelids for a moment. Then he looked back to her shrewdly, but keeping his smile.*
"So where would you like to start?"

"Where could I learn the most?" *she countered, taking a cigarette from the gold case in her pocket and lighting it with a match she then blew out and laid in the carved wooden incense holder on a table nearby.*

*Genghis considered the question thoughtfully.*
"There is much to learn. Will you continue to stay with your brother, or come to stay here with me full time for your training?"

*Mitra cast a glance about the tent. It was large...luxurious...comfortable--enough for one person.*
"I might desire more privacy than your...abode...can offer."

*Genghis grew more rigid. She wasn't ready yet to make the sacrifices that would be required. What had he truly expected?*
"Very well. Then it will take longer. Would you like to begin formal battle exercises or merely work on strategy? I don't you schedule will allow for both at this point."

*Mitra sighed.*
"I shall reside here, then, if it will save time. Strategy and theorem I can learn much more quickly--it would be best to start with formal battle techniques."

*Genghis took a silent pride at her consent, but did not let it show.*
"You are not obligated to change your schedule, but I assure you if you stay here, your time will not go wasted. We will start with exercises every morning, when it is coolest. Then during the heat of the day, we will work on strategy. At least until you build up the proper endurance. Is this acceptable?"

*Mitra nodded shortly.*
"Of course. Shall we begin today?"

"If you are ready."
*Genghis shifted his gaze to the light outside his tent and back to Mitra.*
"It is a bit late to begin excerises this morning, but I will make an exception, if you'd like."

"I am ready." *She stood and put out her cigarette.*

*Geghis studied her for a moment before speaking flatly.*
"You will have to change."
*He turned and opened a sack in the corner, tossing her some rough, simple garments, a loose shirt and short-legged trousers.*

*Mitra caught the clothes and stepped out of her shoes. Without giving it a second thought, she un-knotted the belt at her waist and stripped off the flowing, feminine jacket she wore and stepped out of her long skirt before pulling on the shirt and short pants. She glanced back at the warlord as she rolled back the cuffs of the shirt to her elbows.*
"Shall we use weapons or begin with hand-fighting?"

*At least she wasn't shy. That was good. He shook his head slightly at her question.*
"Neither. First we will hone your body as a weapon, then I will teach you to wield it."
*He walked past her to the mouth of the tent, turning his head briefly to her.*
"You will learn forms first."

*Mitra nodded but said nothing as she followed him outside to a flat, bare stretch of earth, marked as a training circle. She planted her feet shoulder-width apart and looked to him for instruction.*

*Genghis set his body precisely, the forms coming second nature. Looking to her, he noted that it was easier to think of her as a young boy in those clothes. Perhaps this would not be so bad after all.*
"Just follow, I will refine the poses for you."
*And so they went, he gave an example and let her emulate it, then moving to straighten an arm or reposition a foot. She picked it up surprisingly well. Then he showed her how to flow through the forms in a pattern that would spark joy in the stoutest of Grammaton Clerics.*
