"Having now taken away the element of surprise, you seek to challenge me?" *she shrugged prettily.* "Very well."
*She easily sprang to attack, but the knife in her right hand darted forward, but did not strike immediately, though she saw the man's eyes dart towards it instinctively. A wicked smile curved her lips as she took the moment of distraction to take her veil in her left hand and twist it around the knife her father held. She yanked on it with a surprising amount of strength, bringing down his weapon, harmlessly blunted in the folds of cloth, and pressed the edge of her blade against his throat.*

*Genghis's eyes lit up in delight. Then his foot gracefully caught her behind the knees, sending her tumbling to the floor. Nimble bare toes reclaimed his blade and he looked down on her with a pleased smile.*
"Very good. Again."

*Remaining low to the ground, Mitra lashed out again, this time boldly, with no tricks. Her speed and aim were sure and the tip of her blade scored a thin line along Genghis' muscular bare stomach.*

Surprising...that's nice.
*Genghis echoed the stroke, scoring the flesh of her shoulder before bringing his other hand down to catch her blade wrist.*
"Who taught you? You are a creature of extraordinary grace."

*Mitra bit back a hiss as the blade bit into her skin, but the wound was not deep--she had sustained worse. She looked up at her father with a solemn hardness in her gaze.*
"No teacher, my lord, but experience. My choice was not to dwell in curtained harems, nor to hide from adversity."

"A diamond in the rough then."
*Genghis stepped back and sheathed his weapon.*
"It seems a sin to not cultivate such raw potential."
*He sighed gently.*
"I will teach you..."
*The word stuck in his mouth, but he forced it out between his teeth.*
"...daughter."

*Mitra wrinkled her nose.*
"If you're going to say it like that, please, just call me Mitra, and we can try and forget that I'm your daughter if it pains you."

"If you must be a woman, I would prefer you be of my line. The relation is not the aspect I find taxing."
*Genghis offered his hand to help her up.*
"I am a creature of routine. It can take me time to adapt. But I always do."

*It was Mitra's turn to be surprised at his seeming affability. Still wary, she slid her hand into his and stood. She did not need his help to do so, but she knew the wisdom in playing her cards close to her chest, and for now would let him think what he pleased of her.*
"Let us hope so."

*Genghis lifted his brow, slightly surprised.*
"Do you doubt my effort or my ability?"

"I have seen little enough of you to judge either your effort or your ability. I will not form a certain opinion of you for some time." *She picked up her wine glass and drank from it.*

*Genghis joined her in the drinking of wine with a nod.*
"We sail in uncharted waters together on this venture. I also will attempt to reserve further judgement."
Although I am certain that you have already formed some opinions.

"Do so, for your own sake. It does no one any good to be proven wrong on any point."
