How nice. *Katie tapped her lips thoughtfully* You said your last name was Booth? Hmmm. That jus' sounds so familiar. *She shrugged it off and smiled* So. You've been around the Opera your whole life? That sounds so excitin'.

Oh, she's a ditz. Thank God! ((He so nice! : ) He shrugged, smiling. "Not really. Certainly there are interesting people, but it's just home to me. The States sounds like an exciting place, though, with all of the diversity and new opportunities."

((She's not a ditz, she's just...um...not gifted intellectually. Or something. ;D )) *She smiled up at him from under her long eyelashes* I have to confess that I have yet to see anywhere that's equal to Atlanta no, it's pronounced Adlanna! Argh...no, it's Atlanta. What it used to be, anyway.

((I'm going to bed. Goodnight!))
He nodded. "It sounds like it used to be a wonderful city. Perhaps it would have been rebuilt properly if Johnson hadn't been President," he said, half addressing his father.

((Goodnight!))
*She shrugged* Or perhaps it could have never been burned if we had been allowed to secede.

"Or if you hadn't tried to seceed," he added. "After all, if you had been allowed to, then all of the states would leave the nation whenever the government rubbed them the wrong way and there wouldn't be anything left. It's the United States, not the Come-And-Go-As-You-Please States."

*Katie frowned* What would you know about it? If you've never been there, you don't know what it's actually like. It would have been much better if we had been allowed to secede.
((Me: *grinds teeth* I'm not liking Katie so much right now.))

((Really? I just find her amusing. That's how you deal with crazy rebels. ) He cocked an eyebrow. "You thought that the government was trying to take away States' rights and end slavery, didn't you? And that's why you seceeded?"

**KATIE** Well...yes. *She sighed* Can we just drop it, shug? I was sent here to get away from all of that, and I'd hate to argue with a new acquaintance.

He smiled amiably. "All right. I'm terribly sorry, mademoiselle. So...how are you liking Paris, so far?" he asked.

"I'm glad. What did your parents send you to do here, exactly?"

Jus' to get away from Atlanta for a while. They're jus' a little...worried...about what's goin' to happen there and since I, um, tend to end up smack dab in the middle of things, they agreed it would be better for me to get out of there.

He cocked an eyebrow. "I see," he said. He had a feeling there was more to it, but he wasn't going to ask her.

*She smiled brightly* And you were raised here, in Paris? What all did you do?
