Jess had one last stop before heading back to London.
She'd called ahead to make sure Bruce wasn't about, she'd rather not have to talk to him, for both of their sakes. After everything she still cared and it still hurt to see him, especially with Ms. Lane around.
Pulling up in to the driveway, she noticed Alfred outside speaking with the groundskeeper in rapid French. She sat in her car for a moment, waiting until it seemed they had stopped, before opening the door.

Alfred looked up as the car opened and smiled, once he had come out of the kitchen that day, she'd all ready been gone and Bruce had moved down to the batcave.
He didn't know where she was staying or he'd have gone and talked to her. He slowly headed to her, meeting her half way "Ms. Jess."

Jess grinned, taking the old man in her arms "Alfred."

"You can't believe how wonderful it was to hear from you, after that day, well there were a lot of things unsaid and it wasn't as it Master Wayne was saying anything."

"I imagine he's been working more often?" She asked as they headed in to the house.

"Exactly, I've stitched up more wounds than I care to say, he's been reckless. Before he was being overly cautious and never going out, now, I rarely see him."
Alfred opened up the door and nodded to a maid who stared at Jess with a wide mouth "I'll explain later Marie."

Jess smirked with an apologetic expression as they headed up the stairs to her old room. Once out of the maids ear reach Jess sighed "And how is Ms. Lane taking all of this?"

"As well as she can" Alfred nodded "with Bruce gone most of the time, their relationship has definitely suffered. I've tried to keep her as entertained as possible, but she's not my girlfriend."

Jess chuckled "It's not your job to keep her entertained, although you and I had some interesting conversations when Bruce was out at night" she shook her head, looking at the once familiar portraits on the walls, her smile slowly fading.

"Quite so, however you're humor and mine are very similar, I'm afraid Ms. Lane and I live on different planets. She's a delight to speak to that's for sure, but when it comes to sarcasm well, she's a bit more brash then expected."

Jess sighed "Has she at least been writing? The Daily Planet isn't exactly the same without her. Her articles were one of the only reasons I picked up the paper."

"I'm afraid I don't know" Alfred sighed "sometimes I hear the computer clicking in her room, sometimes I don't." He shrugged "However I haven't seen her at all today, usually they tell me if they are leaving. I woke this morning to find them both gone, they'll show up I'm sure."
Or they won't, then I simply have more to worry about then getting the bathtubs cleaned.

"I'm sure whatever it is, it'll be all right" as he spoke they came to her old room, he'd locked it the day after the memorial. He'd come in a few times to find Bruce standing in it, or to dust, but it stayed exactly the way it had been.

Jess stood there for a moment, staring in to the room.
She felt like a stranger in her own past.
Taking a step in, she caught her breath "Why, you could've just thrown everything away you know."
