*Alone, Lois stood in front of a huge liquor cabinet. Anything and everything you could think of in the realms of alcohol was there. But the drink of her choice that night was Bacardi rum. She grabbed a big bottle and one of the many shot glasses lined up. Sighing, she sat down at the counter in front of the cabinet and poured herself a shot.* "To you, Colonel," *she muttered a toast to her father then knocked it back.* ((*coughcough* I'm having her drink Bacardi for a reason. *coughLOGOcough* ))

((Lol! ILU <3))
Fed, and now properly attired (and prepared for the conversation ahead) Bruce finally joined Lois. He'd debated long with himself over his decision to tell her--would her knowing he was Batman put her in more danger, or help her avoid it? But if she stayed in the dark, she could be in just as much danger--or more--because she didn't know what was going on. He had, at last, finally come to a conclusion.
"Hello, Lois." He said mildly.

((LOL!))
*Lois looked over her shoulder at him.*
"Hey, uh..." *she held up the bottle of Bacardi.* "You're going to have to excuse my raiding your booze collection."
*All she had had to eat was some pretzels that were on the counter so she was definitely starting to feel buzzed. Regardless, she poured herself another shot and downed it.*

"No, that's all right. I can't drink all of those myself."
He noted, wryly, her choice of alcohol--the one with a bat symbol on it.
He joined her, taking a shot of the rum for himself.
"Sorry I took so long."

*Lois shook her head.*
"It's fine. I mean, it's not like I'm going anywhere," *she said sadly then downed another shot.*
"Especially after this."
*She looked at the bottle with comic affection.*

He picked up the bottle, glancing at the label.
"Well, if you're going to pick rum, this is one of the best to get drunk on."
And another shot.

*She poured herself another shot but paused before drinking it.*
"Sounds like you've got some experience."
*Then another shot.*

"Years. And years..."
He stared at the Bat symbol on the label for a moment.
"Ever since it was legal...not that I'm a drunk or a raging alcoholic. Not possible with Alfred around."

*Lois gazed at him placidly.*
"Why?" *she asked simply, her tone staying strangely flat, almost like an after thought.*

"My parents."

*Lois felt her stomach sink. Her eyes fixed themselves on him and refused to move.*

He swirled the remaining rum in his glass, not drinking it.
"You'd think, by the time I could drink, that it wouldn't hit me as hard anymore. But no..."
He briefly flashed back to the trial, and what he'd been planning.
"...even now, it still comes back to haunt me."

*It took her a while to speak. When she did, her voice was a whisper.*
"You'd have to be a pretty cold bastard if it didn't haunt you."

He nodded, finally taking a drink.
"I'm in my 30s now. And the...the horror of that night, all of it, it's still there in my mind."
He refilled the glass.
"I channel it in other directions...not just this." He held up the glass.

*She reached out, hesitantly at first, and took the glass out of his hand before he could drink it. She set it down and gently took his hand.*
"My dad... flew missions over Vietnam and Cambodia during the war and, um..." *she paused, looking down.* "It took him over twenty years to get right. Actually, according to my mom, the Sam Lane that left never really came back. He pretended like nothing was wrong but... we all knew he wasn't. It wasn't until Lucy was born that things started to change."
*Lois grinned mirthlessly.*
"I guess what I'm trying to say is, things like that change you. Forever. And hoping for things to change, to go back to the way they were isn't..."
*She sighed deeply, tightening her hold on his hand.*
"It never does."
