((It's totally okay.))
Cloud's arms tensed with the effort not to pull Aerith to his chest, not to sweep the girl off her feet right then and there--because he could never be a knight in shining armor, let alone hers. That simply was not Cloud Strife. He frustratingly contemplated just how long he had been awaiting this very moment.
"Aerith..."

Aerith's hands went to her chest, and she clasped them tightly, suppressing her own urge. She couldn't believe she had this chance, but now that she did, she didn't know just how to go about it. Even her trademark playful snarkiness failed her now, and she could only smile hesitantly.
"Cloud, I...I was..."

Cloud bowed his head and shut his eyes, welcoming the darkness. The young man believed that he could endure anything but those eyes of hers--they penetrated far too easily through the reserves he had taken so long to build.
"It's my fault," he sighed. "I couldn't...stop your...death."

((And, I am alive, too.))
The flower girl took a small step forward, her eyes wide and her smile gentle. "Cloud...I don't blame you..." she murmured, reaching out to touch his arm. "I suppose that all of us have our destined times. Maybe there really wasn't anything you could do, even as a bodyguard. But...know that I don't want to leave you again."

((Lol, I was wondering where you'd gone to.))
Cloud's throat closed up, and though his lips parted to form the words, his voice ultimately failed him. He furiously wondered why, of all things, he found this particular endeavor so difficult.
His hand reached up to firmly grasp her own.

Aerith fought back tears...it had been a nightmare, a long nightmare, and now she was finally waking up. Here she was, once again with the one she truly loved, and they could put what had passed behind them.
Her hand in his, she whispered for him. "Let's just...let's just find somewhere we can settle down, maybe?"

Cloud nodded curtly once and finally managed to whisper a hoarse "yes" in her ear. And somehow, he felt that it was not that simple, that there were still far more evils to overcome and battle. But if he could just lie, for one day, in Aerith's embrace...if he could just gaze into her eyes and allow himself to be consumed by them...he would be complete. It would be enough for a lifetime.

((I'm sorry. I know this is taking way too damn long...))
Aerith...knew that the peace couldn't last. There would be problems still ahead to face, perhaps even as great as those they'd met together. For the moment, though, she didn't care about that at all, and her warm smile said it all, eyes gentle as ever. "...That's all I want."

Cloud smiled tightly, closing in to steal a kiss from her lips but pausing--and stopping--at the last moment. The memory of that strange reverberating sensation he had experienced a few minutes prior came floating back to the surface of his mind. "You go on without me," he said, removing a cellular phone from his pocket. He handed it to her. "I have some business I need to take care of. My number should be the first one listed in there. You know, just in case you get into trouble or need to contact me or something.
"Wait for me," he added softly.

It was finally time! Aerith's eyes fluttered, and she leaned forward expectantly...only to find herself still waiting. She frowned slightly, a bit irritated at having the moment spoiled. Still, it might have a good reason, after all.
Listening, she sighed, and nodded, tucking the phone away into her coat pocket, looking up gently. "I will wait. Cloud? ...Be careful."

Cloud rolled his unnaturally blue eyes and smiled.
"Don't worry...I'll be perfectly fine. I'm more concerned about what you might run into, so you just worry about yourself, for the time being."

Her slightly-embarrassed smile was the same as ever.
"I'll...I'll be careful this time. It's just that I don't want anything to come between us again, wherever this might be. But don't worry. I know you can handle it. After all, that's what a bodyguard does, right...?"
She winked, though rather more sweetly than ironically.

"Of course," Cloud said, puffing out his chest in mock pride. "Let's mosey, then."

He never failed to make her smile, and for once since then, she managed to feel like things could return to normal.
Taking his arm in hers, she nodded. "Who knows what the future holds? Let's go together..."
