Adrian pushed a button to summon an elevator.
"It's nothing terribly exciting; I merely wanted to take a look at you and see if one of the figure prototypes could be modified to reflect your... current likeness."
There was a little bing noise and the elevator slid open; Adrian held the door for them to enter first and then stepped in himself.
"Did you know about this?" he asked Teja.

"The cult of soccer moms? Because of course I fucking didn't-"

"No, the haircut."

"I'm right here," Loki interjected.

"Adrian, he literally just cut it," said Teja in some agitation. "Pardon me if I didn't make a point to text you."

"And I don't recall asking you to manage my life to such an extent that it causes you and your people some kind of crisis when I pick up a set of electric shears," Loki added heatedly.

The elevator chimed again and opened on a dim office floor spread with cubicles; Adrian lead them into a conference room with a southward-facing window and flipped on the light. There were a few prototype Loki figures and a handful of Ozymandias production models spread over the table; Adrian pushed himself up onto the edge.
"Knife me," he said, holding out his good hand.

"Oh, I'd like to about now," said Loki, as he pulled out a butterfly knife and handed it to Adrian with a moody glare.

"Some of them have started revering you too, you know," Adrian said, glancing up at Teja as he locked one of the Loki figures in the grip of his prosthetic hand. "I think it's inevitable, at this point. The key is repudiation- the more effort both of you put into denying that you require worship and sacrifice, the less threatened the general, non-cultist public will feel by Loki's existence."

"Why?" she exclaimed, more loudly and more unhappily than she ever intended. "This is so stupid - all Loki ever does in public is schmooze and eat pizza-"

Adrian pried up under the hair of the prototype figure until it popped right off. The head underneath was still painted black where a scalp would be.
"And fight murderous parasites at galas," Adrian countered, "only a month or so after saving a minor made man's daughter from a repo man."

Loki's eyes narrowed.
"How did you find out about that?"

Adrian unlocked his prosthesis and put the figure down, picking up the hair and setting it in a pinch between his mechanical thumb and forefinger. He glanced between it and Loki as he started carefully carving off a section of the softer plastic.
"News travels," he said simply. "Especially when you call yourself Loki over the radio."
