"If I were there, I would have you escorted to a safe location," he sighed. "All right, here's what you do for a start. Call a car first, and leave through your building's service exit. If it doesn't have one, use the basement."

She wasn't following why he was telling her this, and she didn't think she would do it, but she started to write down what he was telling her. The unexpected advice had her reacting unpleasantly.
"This isn't - really what I called for," she said through sniffling.

"Then what is it? I'm sorry, I'm trying to follow-"

"It's Loki. He's..... enjoying it."

"Of course he is. Teja, I don't mean to be cruel, but you understand that he's profoundly immature, yes?"

She wanted to snap back that of course she knew and she knew it better than he did. But being confronted with it in a composed, weary tone of voice, it was hard to maintain that impulse. It was just exhausting, and there was some comfort in someone else confirming it.
"Well, I do live with him, you know," she sighed.

"He's getting attention, unimaginable quantities of it. Of course he's enjoying it."

She felt a pit sinking in her stomach, thinking about her own encouragement of the god-king delusion, and feeling a bit ill.
"...there's a lot more than just that."

"Part of the reason he's enjoying it so much is - well, he went back to Asgard, and he met with his father, and... his father made him heir."

Adrian pinched harder.
"He's lying, Teja."

She was frowning and it was in her voice.
"Do you think I am an idiot? He's not lying. This whole thing is his first glimmer of hope in the whole mess. He was distraught. He's tried to get his brother to un-abdicate or whatever to get out of it."

"You actually expect me to believe Loki wants his brother to- all right, fine. Fine, I apologize, I'll play along..."
He sighed.
"And if that's true, then he can't stay here forever."

She was still stinging. "Why are you so convinced he's lying and I'm some helpless sap who believes every thing he says?"
