"You're much more beautiful than you think, Dan," Adrian sighed, perhaps a bit sadly.

"Not a word I'd choose for myself" Dan replied, unable to smile "but a compliments a compliment."

Adrian drew his fingertip down the fine curve of Dan's nose.
"I've always considered myself unremarkable," he laughed softly. "It has never concerned me enough to cause any distress, but I've never understood how I apparently am sufficiently distinct from any number of men of my race and build, let alone in a positive manner."

Dan chuckled gently, barely a laugh, barely a breath "It isn't just your looks Adrian, personality can influence as much as cheekbones."

"Fair enough. And mine are rather lopsided as it is."
He kissed him gently on the forehead.

"Nobody notices I assure you" he smirked as Adrian kissed him and opened his eyes as he pulled back.

Adrian laughed and lay beside him on his side.
After a moment, he said, "Did I ever tell you that I shaved my head once?"

"Blasphemy."

"I was thirteen, and it prevented more... destructive thoughts," he said, laughing a little at his own folly. "Shaved isn't the best word, perhaps. I didn't take a razor to my skin; I took some pocket money to a barber and... well."
He moved his hand back over his own head, very quickly.
"My mother had always cut it before then. She couldn't see well enough after..."
He sighed.
"I thought perhaps this would stop her from feeling obligated."

Dan rolled a piece of Adrians hair between his fingers.
He was mostly aware of what 13 year old Adrian was attempting to work out and it was entirely too depressing. Adrian had been working his whole life to make up for the sins of the past and Dan could do nothing for him.
If guilt had ever became human it would take the shape of Adrian Veidt. Maybe with Dan's nose.
He laid the strand of hair along side Adrians forehead and smiled.

"I started high school that fall, and no one was ever the wiser. It had had six months to grow back by then."

"I'm glad you never made that mistake again" Dan replied lightly.

"Too many scars now," Adrian teased.

Laying back Dan chuckled "Thank god."

Adrian brought Dan's hand to the worst of them, a distinct seam just beyond his hairline in front.
"Seventeen stitches. I was fifteen."
