Dan laughed "Babies aren't quite that complicated, it's when they form the capacity for making memories that you have to worry about" he wouldn't let Adrian know, but he'd all ready purchases five or six baby books.

"I have nightmares about it rolling off of things-"

"There's a lot more safety features in children's equipment then when we were children. Less hanging off buildings in mesh cages and what not."
He pulled off his glasses again and smiled, happy for once to be as blind as he is.
What had happened to him that brought him here? Stepping backwards in a relationship that he never understood but still talking baby. He flashed back to Megan and felt a pang in his chest, he couldn't even have taken care of a full grown woman- Stop Daniel, stop. You're going to be fine. This will all work itself out. It has to. But he wasn't so sure.

"I wouldn't know," Adrian sighed, thinking of being roughly foisted off of high pieces of furniture and then unceremoniously dropped from a good three feet off the ground. "I don't recall my early childhood particularly well."
His father had dared him to cry; all Adrian had permitted himself was a hiss and a whimper, but that caused his mother to flee the room with Klara pressed to her chest. She slammed the door shut at the end of the hallway and put on a record instead, some American import confiscated from someone the other side of the fence.
"I suppose I envy you that."

"Adrian" he turned his head back to him, without his glasses however he couldn't really read his expression. He knew as much about Adrians young life as he'd let him and none of it was good.
Dan had an absentee father who disapproved of all of his life choices but that was a cake walk compared to what Adrian had experienced.
"This child will never want, not for anything, that I can promise you" he nudged him a little with a gentle smile.
He was giving more than he honestly had at the moment, but they both needed the emotions to come down.

"I'm hoping for a girl; I've got better ideas of what to expect from young girls."

Adrian turned his head and re-smoothed Dan's hair where it had slipped again.
"...I'm sorry that this is the way things ended up."

Dan sighed, closing his eyes as Adrian smoothed his hair "Yea, me too."

"...Ingrid," Adrian murmured. "If it's a girl. What say you?"

He kept his eyes closed and smiled "Sounds beautiful."

Adrian smiled sadly, though Dan couldn't see it.
"I don't even know why you think you need my hair," he teased. "You seem to be enjoying this just as well."

Dan chuckled, he knew what Adrian was doing. Steering the conversation was his specialty and Dan had no more energy left to fight.
Too many emotions in a short amount of time. Too many revelations and it wasn't even lunch time on the first day of the worst vacation in his life.
He wondered if there was a Vespa hiding somewhere on the property. Not that there were roads...
"Its different" Dan had no better explication than that.

Adrian stroked it pensively, his mouth lightly pursed. His hand slowed, and he began making little circles on Dan's scalp with his fingertips instead.

It was like a massage for his brain and he felt himself slipping away.
He had to regain his emotions, he had to find himself again. Maybe this, break wasn't such a terrible idea.
Unknowingly he leaned in to Adrians hand, his face had become slack, yet slightly peaceful.
