Herbert was rather torn.
On the one hand, he was fairly sure nine in the morning was a pocket dimension accessible only to wizards, but on the other… well, there was one ability he knew he still had, and that was a good sense of how to best take advantage of the situation at hand between his father and Loki's little fiancée. And it wasn't really a betrayal of Sarah's friendship to try to gently push his father and Teja closer together, not when Vati and Sarah hadn't really been much of a couple for ages. Sarah… well, Herbert loved his Vati, but even so, Herbert knew she deserved better. The idea of her having her freedom gave him a little vicarious thrill, and that was enough for him to take the initiative and show up at Ashton's building before- he hoped- the girl had left for work.
"Tell her it's Herbert, Herbert von Krolock. She knows who I am! We went to the opera together. Don Juan Triomphant, at the Metropolitan Opera. It wasn't terribly long ago. Herbert von Krolock. Don't forget the von, even if Va- my father doesn't use it anymore."
The doorman stared at Herbert like he'd come from another planet as he slowly lifted the phone to his mouth.
"…right. Miss Johnson, there's a-" "Herbert von Krolock!" "A, uh, Herbert von Krolock here in the lobby?"

On the other line, Teja blinked a few times and glanced at her door anxiously, as though he were already there. This time, his father wouldn't be there to save her, and she didn't know if she'd be able to get rid of Herbert when she inevitably wanted to.
She knew the doorman could hear her sighing into the phone, but she could hear him letting Herbert up. She tried calming herself, shaking her head for being so silly, and also for letting the too-dense vampire into her house, where he would surely wear out his welcome.

When she opened the door, Herbert was already smiling at her.
"Oh, good. You are still here. Hello, dear!"

It was like children selling things for their school, but tall, and Herbert von Krolock. She had enough experience in sales to smile back at him, though.
"Hello, Herbert. I'm... not sure how long you can stay-"
She didn't have an excuse ready but she wanted to at least get that out there.

"May I come in?"
His arm was already there, but most of him was still in the hallway, at least.

"For... Briefly, yes."

He sailed in beside her- he didn't seem to quite fit in the apartment; he had at least two inches of height on Loki and about another six or seven of breadth- and went to sit primly on the sofa, with one leg crossed neatly over the other and his fingers laced over his knee.
"Are you alone, I hope?"

"Do you see my fiance hanging over me protectively at the sound of your voice?"

Herbert laughed, covering his teeth by reflex with a very large white hand.
"You do have a point there. Here, sit. I have news."
He patted the sofa beside him.

"How kind of you, Herbert, but I'll stand."

Herbert shrugged.
"Well, it is your house, dear."
He leaned back a little.
"Besides, I'm not here about me."

"You really should sit- I don't want to alarm you."

"What can you possibly say to alarm me?" she said wearily.

"Well… you see…"
He tipped his head back to look at the ceiling instead of her.
"It's about Vati. I think he's become rather… taken… with you."
